Hmm, I agree with much of the OP's criticisms of Gmail, however I consider Outlook and Mail to be effective forms of torture.

maybe you could generate a new set of randomized halves every second, so that getting two matching halves is less likely.

Not the OP but I'll tell you my approach, as someone who prefers a "flat" style: I think of dimension (and texture) as one of the tools in the design toolbox, along with proximity, alignment, proportion, color, shape, and others. These tool

how about two flexible strips of LEDs? one wraps around the seatpost, the other around the stem. same overhead as front and rear lights, but you can easily see them from the sides.

These systems look neat, but I find them inelegant in that they're only visible from the sides, so they're more of a supplement to front and rear lights than a complete solution.

Maybe "lightness" or "whiteness" would be more accurate because it's a matter of reflectance and not luminance, but brightness is already commonly misused in that context, so I don't think this is particularly egregious. Paper has a brightn

I see, so it's after you've created the box. I agree that there should at least be a mode where everything snaps to a full pixel. Anyhow, the Cmd+K trick would be useful in your case. Also, corner radii should be preserved if you resize wit

Can you clarify your issue with Fireworks? By "palette" do you mean "canvas"? From my experience, there are no sub-pixels initially on the edges of boxes drawn in Fireworks. Sub-pixels will occur if you use the Scale tool (Q) to resize the

I recently went through the process of selecting a CMS for a client. ProcessWire, was the ONLY one I looked at and thought, "ok, now this makes sense." In the end, I couldn't use it because it doesn't yet support repeatable content sections

Ok hackers, listen up... I know you love your fluid-width layouts, but just because you can fill the entire window with content, doesn't mean you have to. Blocks of text become difficult to read (and also ugly) when lines get to a certain l

That's easy. Better video quality. More attractive controls/player. A community that enjoys this type of thing. Note: Youtube has been improving with respect to the first two. Also, does it really lock up your whole system?

The Adobe AIR Application Installer seems to launch automatically. I hadn't decided whether or not I wanted to try the app at that point, but I definitely didn't want to see my CPU usage shoot to 100% and have my browser lock up. So I decid

That's probably the most convoluted sign-up process I've seen in a while. On the landing page, they ask for an email address, and the hint is "you@myopera.com". So I enter "me@myopera.com" since they must be asking what I want my Opera addr
