I disagree, as seems most commenters do. Sometimes OO is tightly coupled with an language (Java), and sometimes not (JavaScript), but that's just part of the consideration to be made before choosing which tool (language, OO/procedural) to s

The title suggests that the aurhor will provide reasons for why OO actually is bad, but he doesn't. Why is it so fashionable to bash OO anyway? It's just a tool, it can be used wisely, but often it is not, which gives no reason to blame OO.

This whole discussion is about MVC. In order to argue about MVC we should have a common understanding of the principles of MVC. MVC was invented by Trygve Reenskaug. His definition of MVC is both consistent and readily accessible. Therefore

Services that provide data as JSON and RSS are not part of MVC at all. Even if you use MVC for your application, not _every_ part of your application has to fit into MVC. You use MVC only for the part of your application that communicates w

jQuery UI and the charting lib are not external software, they are part of your system (application). By your logic, every possible digital representation of the model is a view because you can always dig up some tool somewhere to visualize

"A view is a (visual) representation of its model. It would ordinarily highlight certain attributes of the model and suppress others. It is thus acting as a presentation filter." Source: http://heim.ifi.uio.no/~trygver/1979/mvc-2/1979-12-

Let me give you an example. In your model, you have represented the salary of an employee as an integer. In a web application, the salary can be presented to the user through numerous different views - as a number on the screen (plain HTML)

The purpose of the distinction is to prevent even more confusion about what MVC means.

In the context of MVC, a user is a human being - describing JSON and RSS services as "views" totally misses the point. Quote from the inventor of MVC, Trygve Reenskaug: "The essential purpose of MVC is to bridge the gap between the human us

JSON and RSS views don't make sense - in MVC, views are visual representations of data (the model). Views are how the user percieves the application. JSON and RSS are just different methods for representing data to be communicated to other

That might be your experience, but I don't agree as for Angular. We are building a "desktop application" using AngularJS just now. The application is a visualization of the status of multiple systems over time - nothing very complex, but st

You should have a look at AngularJS. It's two way binding and declarative philosophy makes it very tidy and true to the MVC paradigm.

I live in Stavanger, the Norwegian "oil capital". There are lots of tech companies here who make a living from serving the oil industry. I would recommend that you start out working for one of the bigger consultancy firms (Bouvet, Evry) - y

"Early adopters" - surely we're beyond calling IPad owners early adopters? As for desktop and tablet support, is it really that hard with excellent toolsets such as Bootstrap etc. ?

There is definetely room for an IDE that is more intuitive and slick than Eclipse - I find Eclipse's many views and modes distracting. Perhaps Light Table is not a revolution of IDEs, but it is certainly a welcome leap in the evolution.
