The world of software development is a lot bigger than HN.

Not going bankrupt is just a proxy that (in the absence of actual names and numbers) allows us to reason about their habits. It doesn't mean that they only still enough not to go bankrupt :-) And then there is scale. There is only one weste

Unheard of. Ever seen a western politician (or their family) go bankrupt while in office? This runs counter to odds, statistics, etc. The only difference is the methods and the scale.

At 24.26 miles above the Earth, the atmosphere is very thin and cold, only about -14 degrees Fahrenheit on average. This is way off. -14 Fahrenheit is something we get in Minnesota. Most winters :-) Any commercial flight displays temperat

My personal experience is that more often than not I end up searching for the "Desktop version" link. Especially on websites I'm familiar with. It would appear that "poorly implemented" is the norm. Bottom line: I suffer.

I am equally productive with web as well as native development so it makes no difference to me. Not surprisingly, Phonegap never appealed much - same work, inferior results, single (but dubious) benefit: cross platform. I was pleasantly sur

Only if your project is small enough that it doesn't require much more than your spare time. Hire one developer (or quit your job for that matter) and you are taking a $100,000 gamble.

I think the author is missing the point. The local TV station format is what it is because this is what SELLS. Our programs are subject to the same market forces. We are only free to design the internals.

Let's put it this way: if every person was to buy a single phone their entire life, and they were only allowed to buy an iPhone, it would take Apple close to 70 years (at this rate) to achieve full penetration! People are so easy to impress

Disappointingly trivial post: 1) I don't know a single person that would seriously argue that dynamically typed languages can perform better than their statically typed cousins. 2) As we all know, programming is the art of making tradeoff.

The mute button in iOS has a worse problem: the ability to be repurposed to lock orientation. I say this from my own experience having developed a popular (paid) app and dealt with angry customers complaining that it doesn't have sound. Aft

What struck me was the premise of the article. Creating a startup company by selling your house is no walk in the park in any country. I can see a similar article written about the US. Quit whining, there are other ways. If there isn't a we

It can only take you so far... You have to generate the UI for highly dynamic parts. Intervene to resize and reposition things when actual content is inserted. Set custom fonts manually (IB is broken). Surprisingly, text is pretty much hell
