The implicit news feed stories were never really a strong source of virality. Our current data is showing that the new stream is performing quite a bit better for us, but YMMV.

They are good for some type of applications that are similar to document based (e.g facebook, flickr, HN news), but for others, web apps are terrible (twitter, photo editing, making phone calls). I'd like to know why you think this is true.

Scalability has nothing to do with your choice of framework or language. In terms of scalability, Cake, Django, and RoR are more or less equivalent (the first two are RoR clones after all).
