We haven't taken Merb into production. Yet. We did have a production Camping app for a time though.

I love this kid - he knows what he wants and is able to get them without whining to his parents. I think the parents have done a pretty good job.

Great advice. Being reactive instead of innovative is death in a startup.

Learned this neat trick from the EngineYard guys. If you plan to scale, I would recommend having seperate Xen slices for your web, app, and database components. It was a life saver to be able to just move your database and app servers to se

Neither. It's a single application running SocialMedia/Appsaholic ads. It's an app called My Aquarium, developed and maintained by one guy.

Frankly, I grin every time I hear someone say that Facebook apps don't make money, because that's just more left for me. Consider these stats from a not spectacularly successful app: http://www.techcrunch.com/wp-content/smincomebig.png Ho

The #1 reason why developers are on Facebook is because of growth and distribution. It's the most viral platform in the history of man. OpenSocial has limited-to-none support for viral channels. It's not that interesting, yet.

Yesterday I was pitched this idea: "it's like simplified pandora + evite + yelp for people who can't decide where to eat." Today: "it's like twitter/pownce/dogster ... but for newborns." What's next?

Yeah I totally understand. This app is pretty tangential to what we're doing, but I think it's too early to talk about that. Our goal was to see if we can design, develop, and launch a Facebook application in a week.
