I'm annoyed by how IBM is trying to add z/OS support to open source projects. It makes sense for them of course. But for the projects there's little upside and it forces them to spend reviewer time on a system basically nobod

AMP exists not because it's impossible to build fast web sites without it, but because it's possible to build slow web sites without it. Which means most big sites not using AMP are slow because most places don't have direct

$100k pays a dev several months. Someone who has source access and needs more than a few days to fix this problem doesn't deserve that kind of salary.

Depends on if you're using intel asm syntax or at&t asm syntax. On Windows, intel syntax is the default, but on non-windows you get at&t unless you explicitly ask for intel. at&t asm puts destination on the right.

“There are only two kinds of languages: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody uses.” But it does seem that the complaining about Rust being a difficult language is happening fairly early in its adoption.

It's nice that some things get faster sometimes. Let's celebrate that, instead of whining about all the things that don't get faster, or complaining how they aren't getting faster enough.

What about posix_spawn() with POSIX_SPAWN_USEVFORK? That saves some of the overhead. See eg https://github.com/rtomayko/posix-spawn#benchmarks

You don't understand what "extend embrace extinguish" meant. It's a tactic MS used to take control of a technology it, with the goal of making it unviable -- see the "extinguish' part. Back then, it was in Micr

I did quite a bit of benchmarking. I mostly compile code, which parallelizes well. For that workload, the higher core count on the 16" means it's (a bit) faster. For single-core work, the M1 wins.

I love it, but I find I don't really use it. My 16" MBP has a bigger screen, 4 usb ports so I can charge, two-factor auth, external microphone and external webcam at the same time. The downside is that it's much louder under

I wanted to move to Signal for years. This announcement was enough to make all my contacts with me. I'm so glad they tried to pull this off. Good riddance.

I love my M1 MBP, but I use my 16" MBP more day to day. The larger screen seems to be more important to me than the noisiness and shorter battery life. Definitely looking forward to bigger arm macs.
