This is actually quite easy to test. Create a text file called curl-format.txt: time_namelookup: %{time_namelookup}\n time_connect: %{time_connect}\n time_appconnect: %{time_appconnect}\n time_pretransfer: %{time_pretr

There are a number of questionable claims in this article--that the DeLorean invented turn signals and the overhead camshaft, for example.

I suspect that any urban architecture trend has a limited lifespan--maybe 20 years or so. This isn't so much "death of the mall" per se, as death (and replacement) of 80s-era malls.

This was possibly true 10-20 years ago (SSL is that old). It is no longer reasonable and is usually just an excuse. That said, in my experience, native SSL/TLS within IIS is incredibly slow/inefficient. Running on 2012R2 (so a mod

Why bother? I see two possibilities: - Two separate address spaces, one volatile (RAM) and one persistent (SSD). "Writing" to persistent storage is as simple as "mov [src],[dst]". - One global address space, with a page

I'm interested in hearing pros/cons of Deis vs Kubernetes. The primary disadvantage I can see for Deis is that it can only deploy single Docker containers (vs Kubernetes pods). Given the Heroku-style setup it makes sense, but it i

The issue with Cygwin is that disk IO in particular is incredibly slow. Which makes things like git substantially slower than on Linux or OSX.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on logo graphic design services. It's not something you want to skimp on--branding is incredibly important.

Enhanced compilers specifically for AMD chips, in the same spirit as Intel's ICC. Except open source, ideally, based on LLVM/GCC. I'm guessing this would let me take (more) advantage of the greater raw core count on Opteron v

Sad that you're being down voted. Apparently The majority of HNers only care about drug legalization and stories demonizing underpaid civil servants doing a thankless and dangerous job.

I admire the philanthropic intent behind this, but last time I registered a domain with Gandi.net I got domain email included at no extra charge. It was way easier to set up than GA (or live.com before it went away).
