I'm an avid audiobook reader. (My wife gets annoyed when I call it "reading", but still.) I personally wouldn't use audiobooks for learning and assimilating brand-new content to a high level of detail. It's just too

Professional lab researchers use physical notebooks because they are lo-tech and immutable. A pre-numbered page in a bound book can't be torn out surreptitiously. Pencil and white-out are disallowed. They're simple and tamper-evid

The problem with that is, using readline 7 as an example, you need to have had readline 7's image cached on your machine, or it still needs to be 'tappable' or whatever in order to do that. In this case, brew master _only_ ha

Know what annoys me about Brew? This just happened last night. I had some package that required readline 7.x; Brew uses readline 8 now. It's not possible to simply command `brew install readline@7`. It took me 30 minutes to figure out

Sure, lots! We've made lots of progress just in the last decade or two. LSTM, recurrent, and convolutional nets. Slightly older (late 90's), but I think Random Forests were a pretty significant breakthrough. Another huge one is Pa

My response to the first, at least, is that sometimes you can do everything right but still lose. Edit to add: I am however skeptical of Sears' particular situation. I'm not sure these execs have the company's best interests

I'm not very familiar with Workflowy. They are similar though. I would say that Workflowy is what you'd get if you restricted Notion to only allow list items at the top level. In Notion every paragraph is a "node", and a

Try out Notion. Works great on all my devices (MacBook, Chromebook, Android). Free tier is quite generous. I really like that in Notion you can just spin up quick data tables with rich data objects underneath. But also -- don't underes

Maybe your DB creds are in a secure configuration system and maybe the KMS credentials are granted by an IAM instance role. If only certain users are able to get access to config (ie RDS), and only certain machines are able to decrypt data,

Well, it's still tough. The question is always "gained root to what ", cause at some point somebody needs a key. Envelope encryption is a good scheme. Under envelope encryption you have a master key and per-row or per-unit k

As an example, the common temperatures in NYC range from 0-100F. In celcius that's like -18 to +38. I'm a scientist and an engineer, and in those applications C is often better. But in daily life, Fahrenheit makes a ton of sense.
