I went all in about a year ago after running microOs for some time. I am pretty happy with the situation, and while I do like the transactional-update way of microos, their immutable desktops have been too much work for me. Kalpa is alpha,

All syntaxes look like windy grass to someone who is not used to them. I think that, while the parsing overhead for lisps might be higher, there is nothing else going on with precedence or syntax. Reading ocaml or haskel operator soup is in

I just have a hard time taking such a comment seriously, because I have made it myself. Many times even. My second comment on Slashdot in 1999 was a comment just like yours. I try to tell myself it is ok because I was still a teenager. 7 ye

Which is the most tired critique of lisp ever. Even the text editor on my phone can keep parens balanced for me. S-expressions were supposed to be replaced by a more user friendly syntax. The trade offs were not worth it and every try to re

Libraries haven't gotten much since 2009 except for huge costs for digital licensing. Ebook publishers are scamming the libraries. I shit you not, but over something like 4 years an ebook can be 10x the cost.

I dont think most people here see that, or even have the willingness to see that. The same was true for the opioid epidemic. Had it hit a group with any political capital there would have been laws passed and the sacklers would have been no

I had a look around and there is very little actual ecidence for detrimental effects. Most things seems to be exaggerations by politicians who want to be tough on crime.

It is gone from kwin because it is really hard to do in Wayland apparently. The setting is still there (or was there until really recently).

I am still a bit sad that window shading isn't supported. I wonder if I am going to continue saying this until I am like all those people 20 years ago complaining about things they liked in CDE not being available in more modern DEs.

Considering how hard it has been, and to some extent still is, to run your own Bluesky instance, the main problem is that it automatically becomes centralised in a way that no open protocol will solve. If 97% of your users are on one instan

I had it as a mind game for a while to design keyboard layouts that would be optimal for Swedish, German and English (my main languages). I found that you can only get so far with algorithmic approaches. I liked the ones I designed without

When that happen I will to seriously start considering the US a third world country. A Banana Republic. I am just an outside onlooker, and things seem pretty bleak.

I think the recent Canadian trade agreement with china is a pretty clear sign of where things are going. Reliance on the US in any way is a liability.

200g a day? Are you a big guy? I did an experiment in my 20s on building muscle on a plant based diet, and managed to gain 10kg in one year (muscle mass, confirmed by a DEXA scan). Total weight gain was about 16kg. Most of the surplus was w
