How is the legal situation of doing that? If I had a company I wouldn't want to get in trouble with any litigious companies.

Why is it a tendency of government? In most instances I see it as a result of laws passed by democratically elected representatives.

Is there any country in Europe not passing authoritarian laws? In Sweden the current government is on its way to defund the largest opposition party. The swedish riksdag recebtly (with broad support) changed the constitution to limit the fr

As another aside: has anyone used the Intel arc graphics cards on Linux? I saw the passive Matrix a310, which looks amazing for my use case (driving two or three acreens, occasional AV1 acceleration).

I would probably say that It is opinionated in a way that makes it good to write services in and it integrates well with the JVM. CL has packages and most implementations have PLN so you get most (all?) of what the clojure namespaces offer.

You could regenerate the start page every 5s and comment pages whenever you need (new, edited or deleted comments) or every request if there has been more than 30s since it was last updated. That would leave the serving to some of the appli

Is it? HN is mostly static content. Ten years ago I wrote a simple web application using twister (python) that did well over a thousand requests per second. If we count just handling requests (and not churning out much data or doing anythin

What about it is head and shoulders above other lisps? The ecosystem? The lack of first class continuations? All the things that can be portably implemented in any language?

Maybe an ARM desktop once multi core is implemented and verified. Verifying the whole thing for x86 seems scary. It is a kind of undertaking that gives normal people a glimpse of how ADHD is. It is a huge task and I would not know how to st

I wrote a comment a couple of days ago that I want a stationary computer case with 12 5.25 drive bays. Invert the chassis and have a top to bottom air flow. That way I don't need any USB ports included on the case. I can just pick any

It differs. 442 or 443 are the most common ones. My orchestra tunes 442. When I worked in Germany it was usually 442, but some orchestras tuned 443. Vienna Phil have historically gone even higher, but are probably down to standard levels by

I have been unlucky with my apple devices, and the fixes made by apple have all been sub-par. From poor soldering and lack of underfill to complete lackluster solutions and expensive fixes that should have been $20, but cost ten times more.

I would love a PC with 12 drive 5.25 bays and a 90° turned design with bottom to top airflow. That way I could chose what I want to have. 12 bays would give me 15 hot swap 3.5 disk spaces. Or a memory card reader. Or a cigarette lighter and

Not very much, surprisingly. It was in a period of my life when I was practising a lot, which might have helped. It took only about a month before I went from having to reason about what note it was to just knowing instantly.

I find that being able to hear the note you are about to play before you play it is great, but having that note absolutely anchored into something that might not be in tune with what is around you is really just a hindrance. There are certa

Not quite that extreme. I could use it for harmonies if it wasn't too many dissonant notes because I couldn't tell the notes apart. However, that is something I trained before doing the perfect pitch thing. Being able to pick apar

You should try it on the baroque bassoon. It works there as well, despite the notes being a half note too low. Or even the dulcian. The low C is very much the same as the bassoon low C despite being either too sharp or too low depending on

I am an orchestra musician. Having perfect pitch was only trouble, despite playing in good orchestras at the time. In the end of Ein Heldenleben the orchestra will not be the same pitch it started and, and for you to be in tune you will hav

I suggest not to do it. It is really painful in the orchestra when the orchestra has gotten sharper than what you are comfortable with and you have to play a minor third. I remember playing Mahler 2. The hall was hot as hell and the orchest

I did not have perfect pitch before this exercise. During it I very much had it. I didn't recognize the notes like I do on bassoon. I just knew. I sometimes still do, but not every note I hear. Now it is just once in a while.

On the bassoon this was (and is) the case for me. It even translates to instruments very close to the bassoon such as dulcian and the French basson. If I hear a baroque bassoon I know what note it is in 415.

I am a professional musician (bassoon player in a symphony orchestra). I can, if I practice it a couple of times a week, achieve and sustain perfect pitch. I had no semblance of perfect pitch until I decided to practice it at age 24. Before
