The anti-intellectualism in this country is infuriating! And it reaches to the highest levels, with creationist congressman and even anti-vaccination nuts like Dan Brown. Only in America do people scoff at the work of science and academicia

Here's the line that probably got him the axe: "Today's legal regime is seen by many as a form of corporate welfare" Drawing attention to the existence of "corporate welfare" does not go over well in the GOP. And I was so proud of them for

One of the things I love about HN is that a scathing article criticizing startups and tech entrepreneurs can make the front page.

Only thing worse are those "Are you sure you want to leave this page?" modals. Those cause me to go into fits of ctrl+w- smashing rage!!!

Very nice! I've used jGrowl for this in the past, but this seems much improved, more feature-rich and with sensible default styles. Alertify FTW!

Oh my god, yes! I am a compulsive margin-clicker. I ostensibly do this to make sure that the browser page has focus, but really it's really just a tick. I love TheOnion.com, but they kill me with their ads-in-the-margins. What I typically

This sort of thing is happening on a massive scale in the US as well. David Cay Johnston's book, The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use "Plain English" to Rob you Blind exposes how "regulated" monopolies bereft of competition squeeze money o
