Texas isn't too shabby either. Plus, fewer natural disasters means less downtime.

That's awesome about your daughter's interest in robotics! I'm a mentor for a robotics program that competes in FIRST competition. You should check it out and see if her schools have anything like this or if you can maybe start something yo

Us Americans do use "Month DD, YYYY" quite frequently, so I don't think that his usage of it is done purposefully.

I love the text right below it. > This is not a quick read, so it’s a good opportunity to try a read-later method such as Safari’s Reading List, which Apple invented completely on their own. Oh so sweet.

The recently released Tumblr app for iPhone is not too shabby at all and is hopefully a step in the right direction for Tumblr on mobile. On the flip side, the Facebook mobile experience is pretty terrible as well, but Facebook already has

Wicked. A guy at my company made a large space shuttle[1] to demo the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT, and although not as impressive as the Trent 1000, it's still cool to see "toys" being used to get kids interested in STEM. 1: https://decibel.ni.com

I'm wondering the same thing, but one consolation is that I can see these being used as indicators vs. as a control.

If you wouldn't mind me (your friendly, neighborhood National Instruments programmer browsing HN) asking, could you expound a little more on other things you've found horrible with LabVIEW? I completely understand your sentiment on debuggin

I understand the frustration. I've run into from a few of my students on the FTC teams that I mentor in my neighborhood. I think that this can be attributed to a lack of really great educational material (there is good stuff out there, but

That's the sentiment that's been conveyed to me when visiting a few university classes that make use of LabVIEW. I think that a great number of programmers that come from textual programming languages (I'm one of them) find the environment

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on LabVIEW, if you've ever used it: http://www.ni.com/labview/ . It's a graphical programming language with an emphasis on system design (for scientists and engineers) that uses a dataflow paradigm (

I agree with you in some regards and I think this is a great point (not because I agree with you, of course ;) .) However, I think jgrahamc and you are speaking to different things. There is documentation, much like our parents did when we

I don't think that Gruber would argue that this piece falls into what we would call stereotypical journalism. It's not a piece that purports to be a View From Nowhere. I think that this piece is akin to pieces you might read in the New York

In fact, it's illegal to not have a front brake in cities like Austin. Not to mention that it's downright insane. Ever try skid stopping in the rain?

Yes. But damn you, it's now stuck in my head, with half a day left at work. I blame you if my function signatures all start to rhyme.

I'm not terribly familiar with free market Austrian-school economics, could you expound on what you mean?
