Massdrop (Drop?) has had filler garbage for quite a while. I think (maybe one) part of the issue is mechanical keyboards got much more popular and drops were less necessary for good stuff.

I've been to dozens of rationalist meetups (I don't know why), people are constantly talking out of their ass while constantly referencing contrived rhetorical devices. A lot of "just asking questions", confidently asser

The time and QoL I save will always beat hypothetical missed promotions at a current employer. For me, I don't think there's an exception to that rule. If I want more money I can ask and if it doesn't show up I can leave.

This is the sort of question I would ask of the export route (vs the much preferable self-host route), thanks for testing it out. If one could export office formats, e.g. docx for docs that'd probably be the best. The more I look at th

This is very impressive, but if I'm going to go through the pain of not using gsuite/O365, I'm not going to consider something I can't self host or export to one of those quickly if your saas fails.

I finished it, now I have depression. But really, it was a great book. Reminded me a bit of The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick.

I can type 100wpm but I want to type faster so I love this kind of thing, but I noticed it stopped responding keyboard input after a minute or so. Thanks anyway!

It's also way harder in the US to go back to school as a working professional. Most people can succeed in university, but the window to do it with the least struggle closes after you're adulting hard, have a family, etc.

The drama is mostly because lots of people don't like writing tests, and lots of folks at one point or another have seen unit tests that are questionably valuable or past the point of diminishing returns I think of tests that require a

A developer bemoaned to me the threat of being legally obligated to make major chat apps interoperate because it would be too much effort and would stifle innovation, and I found that rather pathetic. If we couldn't figure out how to c

I understand what you're saying now, my comment was pretty flippant in retrospect. I didn't mean to devalue the NYT's work, my suggestion was hypothetically intended to liberate the free moat OpenAI got from the fruit's

To illustrate, this is one of my favorite (humorous) lines from it, in the introductory chapter: "In the Eastern Empire, Greek civilization, in a desiccated form, survived, as in a museum, till the fall of Constantinople in 1453, _but

Maybe getting too off topic for the thread, but it feels like equating machine and human output reaches a level of nihilism even I shudder at. I think (hope) there is intrinsic value in something being made by a human being even if a machin

I'm not sure the analogy really fits. As I see it, hypothetical farmers aren't an elite class that gets rich from copying and transforming the communications and creative output of billions(?) of unknowing people.

You'll need a new theory. I've worked with two late millenial/gen-z developers who couldn't hold up a slack conversation to save their lives, so we went to zoom very quickly when they needed anything.

"that's just you" is dismissive and inaccurate. I can only listen to music when I'm slacking and if I begin to do real work the music I normally enjoy becomes an annoyance and I have to turn it off.

(Not an ios developer, have worked with ios teams) Swift build times are notoriously awful. I don't know if most developers have much influence over that.
