The barrier to entry for a non-incumbent candidate is so high because of the amount of money incumbents are able to raise. Therefore, a new candidate entering to pose a real challenge is pretty unlikely, and it shouldn't be.

Without serious campaign finance reform, I'm not sure how likely that is. I'm all for it, just don't see it happening, sadly. The chances of someone on the right beating here are very low, but they're better than someo

Nothing comes to mind. It runs alongside HTTPS (not HTTP), and in my experience "just works" if a client supports it. In Nginx, its a simple flag flip in the sites-available file.

HBO Go and Plex are two apps I am using very frequently with my Chromecast... That gets me both external and locally stored content without a dedicated HTPC to play the media.

Not sure I understand what you mean. Rich, successful people? In my experience, addiction crosses all social, economic and class boundaries. Being rich and famous probably plays an enabling role more than anything. In any case, very sad t

I'm saying it is MORE reasonable than showing up at someones house, not necessarily the best course of action. I agree there are other reasonable courses of action as well, as you outlined.

The more reasonable direct action would be to simply not use a smartphone, not use the internet (or Google Maps), and not host a website. Opt out of the whole thing. I'm not clear on how these people can justify blocking the buses an

Buyer beware, it looks like Simple Mobile doesn't allow tethering. For 70/mo T-Mobile will give you unlimited everything and 500mb of tethering.

This is a complicated solution to a simple problem. How about just editing /etc/hosts or adding it to your DNS?

I find it interesting that a Facebook engineer would openly compare the company to a "garden", given the criticisms they regularly face.

I'm having trouble finding sites that use Persona as a login option. Does anyone have any examples? Trovebox seems to have a demo site up, but I was not able to actually log in to my account.

I could have sworn I saw that address book integration was upcoming (not available now). My mistake! Thanks for the heads up. That said, G+ sign in would still be cool. :)

I am super interested in this, and I think it is a fantastic idea. One critical problem (for me): I don't use Facebook. I look forward to seeing the address book integration, or even better, G+.

Love this idea and execution. Any plans to add rich notifications for G+? It would be great to see info about the notification (and ideally interact with it) from the extension (vs a notification page or redirect to plus.google.com).

You can view all of your +1's from your Google+ profile page. Profile > +1's.

The fact that you can easily change it back doesn't make it ok for FB to make these kinds of sweeping changes. Again, FB shows its poor stewardship of user account data. I'll happily continue only using G+.

I'm not sure I agree that the other OEM's would be upset, or that having stock Android is a preference. The other OEMs must feel their custom UI is a value add, so why would they mind competing with a stock UI? As long as MM isn't the sol

Google has (wisely) made this feature opt-in, rather than opt-out, so I suspect that should solve most of these types of concerns.

"All I care about is engagement" I am not following. So if a site has 10 or 1000 users who are all engaged (maybe a community soccer forum or something), it's a success, but if it has 40M+ with an engagement that is unknown, it's dead? I

I respectfully disagree. Was your expectation that G+'s user-base would eclipse FB after 5 months? I don't think that's realistic (really going out on a limb here). By that metric you could have said the same thing about FB in the early

G+ is still in field trial, but it is far from "closed". I have 150 invites, as do all users to the best of my knowledge. The growth was limited for the first couple of weeks, but that is no longer the case. I would disagree that controll

I would say that you should probably not try to emulate any leadership style too much*. I don't think Steve Jobs did. Successful leadership styles seem to me to come from your own personality, as well as things you have observed to work.

I was asking the question in general, mostly because I've seen a rash of articles saying "Let me pay to make twitter stable", etc. I should have formed my comment better, as it does appear to question this article rather than the idea.

How does paying for something ensure no downtime? I'm pretty sure most services never want to be down, paid or not. I'm missing the connection here; does it somehow prevent people from making errors if you pay?
