I half expected this to be an Oracle database that only allowed you to create tables with two columns.

It's exciting and also deeply disturbing. I agree with all the positive benefits. But after a while I think there's a real tendency to just reduce people to a set if metrics in your mind. It seems scary to me that the more "connected" we ar

I believe we've all inherited or authored a codebase like this at some point. What's odd is that there seems to be no way to avoid other than someone becoming the "bad cop".

It would be nice if you published the results of your data, too? Unless that is forthcoming. I'm not into giving away my data if I don't get some feedback.

While not a new startup by any means, consider a company like VMWare. All their sales pitches discuss CPU architectures and how their products are compatible. (The pitches I've heard personally, anyway). They want to be a big player in clou

Likewise. I don't have a million friends, just a few that really matter to me. The friends that I really care about require no electronic mediums for meaningful interaction. If I didnt hear from them for a year, it would only take 60 second

I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to physics, but I hope it's for real. Maybe a big science breakthrough would interest people enough to start investing more in education.

I agree with a lot of what this article is saying. Sharing everything by default is pointless and misses the point of sharing. I want to share something with my friends because I think it might inspire them or make them happy. Or, in the ca

Depends completely on the startup. You'll get better information by asking about the management structure at a startup that you're interested in working for.

Agree that its a non-issue. Linux is established, would be a really dumb move to block it like this. In two weeks we'll have forgotten all about it.

I agree that Question #6, the keystone, is poorly designed. It should also include the option "I don't know, depends on how useful it is". I just chose a random answer since that option wasn't there (and the question was required).

If you implement one feature, I will switch immediately: multiple accounts running at the same time. I want to be able to sync my work stuff completely separate from my personal stuff. No "Shared Folders" solution or jazz like that. Dropbox

I think this is where a lot of Rubyists/Pythonistas get lost. Just because the languages hide ideas like "interface" and "abstract base class" doesn't mean that those concepts aren't useful. Particularly in Ruby-land there's been a push to

You'd be surprised how many senior-level people are hunt and peck typers. I've met several software engineers with 10+ years of experience who don't type with all 10 fingers (assuming they have that many).

Okay, I'll take the bait. When I ssh into our Solaris server, it drops me into csh by default. That makes me think someone out there believes it's good enough.

I'm waiting for all the Java-bashing Rubyists out there to discover csh. If you need to do "real programming" csh is pretty great and has a more "programmery" syntax than a lot of the others. But, YMMV.
