I think this is a major part of it. In Europe many kids are drinking like crazy when they're 15. By the time they're 21, binging and going nuts is sort of passe. Underage drinking is also not seen in the same way as it is in the US. The att

Definitely a valid point and deserving of an entirely separate thread of discussion. That said, I don't think talking about gender imbalance in software development takes away from discussing racial imbalance in software development. And I

You bring up a good point which is not exclusive only to women. People moving to the United States rarely know anything about football. (Not being born in the US, I had to Google to find out who John Elway is, but I understood from your com

Waaaaay back in the day my favorite search engine was Excite. Truthfully, I don't see a compelling reason to ever switch away from Google. I always find what I'm looking for there.

They didn't kill it, they just stopped supporting and developing it. I spoke to them at Clojure/West about luwak and they said that Riak-CS is the better alternative; they wrote Riak-CS to replace luwak.

I love Daniel's site - he's written a ton of great tutorials and overviews of useful tools. tcpdump is definitely one of the "must know" tools.

I think it's a disgrace that your comment is near the bottom of this thread. Ed's attitude sucks and he will cost the company money. The people down voting you don't seem to care much for having a work ethic.

Agree. The comments getting the up votes seem to think that techs should just sit around while the dumb users get their act together. Ed is as much a part of that team as everyone else.

Darn. It would be nice if there was a way to do it. I'd be happy to take a one-time spot payment and then never bug them about it again. With open-source, I could go in and make the change myself, but if the owning entity will benefit from

Noooo! Don't give away the keys to the kingdom. :) Instead, maybe say "no ping scan". On the other hand, if you're aware of nmap and know how to use it to get past the first hurdle, you're probably more than capable of solving the actual ch

Based on personal experience, I'd respectfully say it's just you. I do see your point, though. I've met plenty of people who could code up a simple web UI but weren't very familiar with the underlying HTTP protocol. I guess my point is that
