Yeah right. Ask Steve Ballmer if he'd rather be beating Google in search or Apple in mobile. Latter pie is much, much bigger.

The double-tap home menu always brings up the weirdest menu. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to how the apps are arranged (or if you even get apps - sometimes you get iPod controls). One of the more irritating features of i

Your first point is incorrect. Apple developed (and has always developed) the Maps app for iOS. The app is no longer using the Google Maps API - that is the difference in iOS 6.

It can't "kill" Siri because IBM will never be able to integrate it as tightly with iOS due to App Store restrictions. Sorry IBM! That's what you get for building a product instead of a platform.

Any analysis of this issue that does NOT go into the number of science PhDs trapped in a protracted postdoc cycle or dead-end "adjunct" position is completely missing the problem science PhDs are facing. Yes, the percentage of unemployed i

So far all of Marissa Meyer's moves (at least the one's getting publicity) have made Yahoo! a bit more Google-like. While that's probably for the best, I will be real interested to see when/where she breaks with Google culture for the firs

Is there any evidence to go along with any of this dude's claims? He makes three points: Point 1 isn't about Google fiber. Point 2 has been self-evident since the day the product was announced. Point 3 is incorrect. Google's promise on wi

This would force a settlement. Which would be bad because no actual patent reform would actually be achieved and a few large tech companies would be able to lock-out new entrants into the field.

The source code for the Tarsnap client ( https://www.tarsnap.com/download.html ) is some of the best-written C I have ever seen. As far as I can tell it was 100% authored by cperciva.

Whether or not it was his fault, Jobs blamed Papermaster for antennagate [1]. Papermaster was also there during the white iPhone shipping delay which may have played a factor. [1] http://daringfireball.net/linked/2010/08/07/papermaster

It doesn't seem likely to me at all. In fact I think it's much more likely that you'll see THIS permissions system end up on iOS than vice-versa. It's actually a fantastic security feature for the average user, so it doesn't worry me that

By default Mountain Lion can only run software from the App Store or by developers Apple has specifically certified. You can tune this restriction both up ("App Store only") and down ("any software can run").

This just means you can't lecture. One thing the digital, scalable lecture isn't going to take away is the importance of one-on-one instruction. In fact it may exacerbate it. To me this is the future of teaching for most teachers - wherea

Does this really matter? Hardly anyone bought the Lumia. For a device with practically zero traction, it makes sense for Microsoft to rapidly iterate the product until it's something consumers want (I don't think Windows Phone 8 will do tha

Women in this field who try to be more visible are prone to being labeled as superficial, attention-seeking, untalented (and much, much worse) terms [1]. Culture change is what is required. [1]: http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/mediawir

Hubris and complacency wasn't limited to RIM. The iPhone smoked Nokia, Palm, Sony's cell phone division, Microsoft, etc. To look at RIM's failure as symptomatic of the Canadian tech sector is inaccurate.

RIM is simply one of many companies that just got utterly smoked by the iPhone, and I wish people would stop equating its failure with the intrinsic problems of the Canadian software industry - which are real and numerous (and your point #2

Citation needed? Apple's app store isn't a huge revenue source by any means [1], let alone profit. I've seen no evidence that App Stores can be any kind of profit center. [1] http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-apple-revenu..
