I use my Echo exclusively with non-Amazon services: Google Calendar, Spotify, Philips Hue. So the product is quite open. That being said, the third-party experience could be smoother - it is a minor pain to have to specify "with Spotif

The banality of it all is what strikes me. A personal favorite: http://graphics.wsj.com/hillary-clinton-email-documents/#/?d... Been there, Hil :)

The only issue with Montreal is, not speaking French will disqualify you from a few different kinds of jobs.

I'm not sure how age-related this is. The Valley has started to equate "disruption" with breaking the law. This is its natural consequence.

That is an overly simplistic problem description. It's trying to identify spam/abuse in a universal way, which is a much harder (and barely coherent) problem, and then delete those tweets which makes the cost of a false positive m

A regression model trained from existing spam and abuse report data to twitter would cover ~99% of terrible at-replies on twitter. Look how effectively a hacked-together script that just uses a couple of heuristics like GGAutoBlocker works.

Detecting and hiding abusive tweets algorithmically is NOT THAT DIFFICULT. These methods are employed widely by Facebook and Google. It's baffling to me that Twitter doesn't do the same thing, and is willing to burn money on poi

It strikes me that you could have said the same thing back in 2012 when Zynga and Groupon were cratering. Likelier, there isn't much of a bubble at all, and companies tend to be properly valued.

Twitter is chasing growth. They are not adding this feature because the current user base demands it, they're adding it because they think they can use it to bring more people in.

I think this is a little reductive. Andy Rubin left Google to form a startup incubator that's focused on hardware and robotics (playground.global). He definitely has interest in it.

This is surprising to me. I'm INUNDATED with Homejoy ads all over the internet. I've never used them (which also might have been part of their problem). Perhaps you just live somewhere they don't provide service to yet? :)

Marco famously tweeted "Shit." when Apple introduced an Instapaper clone into iOS/Safari. He kinda re-uses it whenever a big company does something to squash smaller ones/individuals. It's tongue-in-cheek.

All these negatives are true, but I think network hiring endures because it minimizes the risk that you make a completely mismatched, square-peg-for-round-hole, going-down-in-flames hire. Or at least, the perceived risk. There is this para
