Finding directions (parking or public transportation from your current location) to events is another good application. Also, I wish sites had a link to google maps from their directions page.

However, if that idea is worth selling, you will be ahead in the market. Microsoft will need to catch up. They may buy you out. Software typically goes obsolete for reasons other than the "need" for protection. Besides, by the time Microsof

I think the Diaspora just worked in the SF office. I don't believe it was a project out of Pivotal.

Humans don't judge probability and risk very well. It's hard to forsee the future and problems. Hindsight is 20/20. My bag of cliches is exhausted. Maybe there were other things the engineers were working on that brought definite (as in 100

The FBI probably has a spider bot which searches for keywords. Ooh, they are high-tech. Too bad they don't review the effectiveness of the "threat" detection. Our tax dollars being put to good use.

Gah, this whole article is really nit-picky. The author sounds like some sort of perfectionistic, elitist prick. Definitely a Type A and way too focused on the minutia.

Unfortunately, the blog post author is lots of peoples' first exposure to the Clojure community. Not a great first impression.

The premise of patents is that Facebook would not have done this innovation if it was not protected by patents. I highly doubt that is the case.

Something that doesn't require you to be a techie to understand. OpenID is a bit advanced for many users. FB Connect actually does a pretty good job at being "easy to use". Just log into your FB account and you are set. I know it's not fair

People shouldn't get too angry over the burning. Sure it's a rallying cry for some of the more violent minded clerics, but it's not like they need much of an excuse to incite violence. Sometimes sacred cows need to be eaten before people re

Agile does not require perfect implementation. I have yet to see an "unsuccessful" project using agile, as in the customer and team was not happy with the conclusion (I've been involved with > 10). Usually things change before that poin

It's also an arguably necessary way to change processes in (largish) organizations who do not have good practices. Sometimes it's necessary to be a highly paid consultant to be taken seriously.

Yep, big bang rewrites are always scary. Doing something more incremental would have been safer. One way to "safely" do a big-bang change would have been to use both architectures in parallel and sync back and forth. That way, if the new ar

A tag feedback is more gratifying to the person getting downvoted. That person is less likely to be upset and produce a "boring discussion".

How about this for a HN feature. If your post is < 1, add a link to a page about downvoted comments. That way, the person who was downvoted has an opportunity to read about some common reasons why a post was downvoted, read tips on maki

I like /.'s tagging of comments. It's good feedback on why something was up or down modded. It also forces a downvoter to justify why something is getting downvoted.
