It depends. You can expect a 5 to 15% performance hit depending on the task. In OpenBSD, security comes first and performance comes second.

It is, by far, my first choice for a router/firewall. It has so many niceties for this, all well integrated OOTB, and you can deploy something top notch in no time at all.

Completely concur with this, though I do miss being able to browse for places in Google Maps and easily see when I was last there. This functionality disappeared when my location information went local only.

While I run Linux on my production workstation, I use OpenBSD as my router and firewall at home. I find the configuration of OpenBSD for this a lot more simple and everything that's needed, even for IPv6, is in the base install.
