I'd also add that it doesn't build good will. I did an unpaid internship in college. It was good experience, and I was doing real work (not just getting coffee), but I did resent not being paid. It sucks to be told, in essence, "we don't va

Yep. jQuery does have .delay() now, though. You can use it like this: $('#thing').fadeIn(300).delay(2000).fadeOut(300);

Upvoted. But there's a difference - the arsonist is only allowed to get an insurance policy on buildings he owns. It's more like an arsonist taking out insurance policies on other people's buildings, THEN burning them down. Except we don't

Yes. This renews my fury about the bank bailouts. You know what's REALLY too big to fail? Capitalism. And rewarding market failure is the surest way to take it down.

I don't know this specific situation, but NPR's This American Life just did an episode about a hedge fund called Magnatar. IF the description was accurate (authorities will have to determine that), this was the scenario: Magnatar aggressive

Besides all this, why the heck do they need pictures to track a device? A picture of a bedroom doesn't even tell you where the laptop is. A GPS reading does, and is far less invasive (though I would still insist on the students being notifi

It's in the cloud, silly. See, the way it works is, clouds are flimsy things, so it's easy to just run tubes right through them and it doesn't even hurt. All the poor Justice Department wants is to run its own tube through the cloud before

I hope so. This is the kind of reporting I enjoy most. I would also love to see the "10 shocking ways your toddler may die - more at 11" kinds of crap end. And I want a pony.

That's a good definition. And one that actually matters for open source - where, after all, the goal is for other people to be able to modify your source code. But it's completely irrelevant here. If nobody is going to modify your code but
