I think the flippant response to this is unwarranted. The content here is a 47 page ebook where I'm sure a lot of that will be code examples. Yeah, useEffect is a little complicated, but trying to frame it as "so complicated it ne

That's something that's done purely client side. Either modifying in devtools or using ublock origin's zapper tool lets you hide that. There are 3 or 4 elements needed to be erased to make everything work properly after the p

Yup. The scope of the discussion was around permissioning/security, so I didn't get into billing, but you're absolutely right. You should have CloudTrail, billing alarms, and dashboards all setup. It may also be a good idea t

Here's an example of an effective setup: * Have a separate AWS account for each developer that allows for experimentation without risking shared environments. Engineers can have admin access on their own account to enable rapid prototy

Haven't heard of Dagger before, but using IaC as code to model your pipelines (including pipelines of infra that itself is modeled as IaC) is absolutely the right way to do things. And doing it in a real programming language rather tha

I've used serverless for both big and small loads while working internally at AWS and also continue to do so now that I'm running a small startup. The advantages are: * Lower costs from much better resource utilization rates. Comp

This is interesting. We're shifting away from browser extensions to TamperMonkey scripts because of the futility of trying to get everyone in the company to use the same browser. Would your SDK be usable with TamperMonkey?

That person was misinformed or maybe the context was outside the scope of business needs. If you use link accounts within an AWS Organization, one of them becomes the payer account with consolidated billing. There's a shared free tier

Oh, I like this. A pure syntactic sugar over a language that otherwise preserves semantics is neat. Nice work on documenting what was kept/changed/removed too. Really easy to see at a glance what the project is all about. Love tha

I kind of take the best of both worlds. VSCode has a lot of functionality that Neovim lacks, particularly on rendering previews of things like Markdown and Mermaid. Even outside of UI stuff, VSCode's extension ecosystem has so much dee

Distribution and discoverability are big factors. You may have built a great webapp for managing a todo list, but you'll never be found by the people who just open the app store on their phone and search for "Todo list" there

A few other pitfalls: * Scheduled actions basically never run anywhere close to on schedule. If you schedule something to run every 13 minutes, it may just run 1-3 times an hour with random 30 minute to 1 hour waits in between executions. *

This. Creating classes to wrap dependencies is a pattern only needed because of language limitations. With JS/TS, you can mock at the import statement level, so no need to twist your code to abstract away importing. Also, even if you d

Both monorepo and multirepo can work fine. However, you need tooling to be effective with either. At Amazon, a small team of just 5 people might own around 100 repos. But they have tooling that makes that easier to organize and manage. Goog

VSCode is definitely the first IDE I've ever felt satisfied with. I still run it with vim keybindings and will often pop up the VSCode terminal to run actual neovim for certain workflows, but it feels smooth switching between the two.

It's not so cut-and-dried. The AZ isolation guarantees are not quite at the maturity they need to be. If you're using any managed services by AWS, you need to rely on their own services to be AZ fault-tolerant. In AWS speak, they
