They're honestly not competitive for inference, it's why datacenters largely ignore Apple Silicon. Even the M5 Max is still bottlenecked for dense models due to the relatively weak GPU and paltry ~500-600gb/s of GPU memory ba

Everyone says this, and then rushes out to buy the new iPhone, subscribe to Netflix and post about it to X or Facebook. Everyone is addicted to unnecessary luxury. If I suggested that you take a principled stance, your lifestyle would be of

Apple has taken advantage of that for the past 2 decades, to the tune of a minority share in the PC market. Meanwhile Nvidia is happily cresting what, 5 trillion in valuation? It's a weird time to be an Apple shareholder.

That would require an additional lookup table that doesn't qualify as Morse code, as well as an external clock source.

With just follow/unfollowing, you can't truly encode Morse code. You would have to override a metadata field or agree on an external clock source to overcome the idempotent follow/unfollow action and encode language into the

One nice feature is trackpad gestures. x11's trackpad gestures are awful, but on Wayland you can have the 1:1 multitouch that everyone loves.

I'd argue that Apple had the upper hand, but they folded super early. They abandoned OpenCL, which was the most promising CUDA competitor with industry-wide buy in from dozens of companies. Then they transitioned to an ecosystem-first

LLM inference decode is heavily dependent on memory speed, not just having lots of memory. You can't say "X amount of ram" because the memory bandwidth on an M1 is 68.3 GB/s versus the 614 GB/s of an M5 Max, or a 40

I don't understand this stance. Microsoft is reliant on Nvidia, they don't have a good ARM SOC to ship with without them. They will bend over backwards to accommodate these SOCs on Windows, and probably don't have much work t

I'm mostly surprised by the insinuation of bad performance or battery life. That's what will be ostensibly solved by putting an Nvidia SOC where a Ryzen or Intel one used to be.

Sounds like you aren't familiar with Nvidia's dedication to low-power ARM SOCs. Ever heard of the Nintendo Switch before? The Tegra inside that is a 15w TDP gaming SOC. And it supports CUDA (somehow).
