I don't trust FaceID (technically, I don' trust the cops with FaceID), so I'm entering my (6 digit) PIN every time I take my phone out of my pocket anyway. The only thing that'd make me hesitate to set this down to singl

Lots of quadcopter flight controllers use 9DOF IMUs , with 3 gyros, 3 accelerometers, and 3 compasses. The absolute directional data from the compasses solves (at least most of) the angular/gyro drift. The translational drift is harder

Lidar would reveal your drone existence and location to the, ummm, "park rangers" when you are “delivering supplies” to “lost hikers” in GPS-denied environment.

Inexpensive barometric sensors are _remarkably_ sensitive too. Like enough precision to detect less than 10cm or 4" changes in height/altitude. Note that's "sensitive", not "precise". The atmosphere change

Looks like it doesn't handle year transitions nicely? In NSW Australia, it shows 11 days between Dec 21 and Dec 31, but Jan 1 is a public holiday here and you capsule add Jan2&3 plus the following weekend to get 16 days 21 Dec 2024

There was always something intensely satisfying about walking into some retail store and seeing boxes on the shelf containing CDs with software I'd written. (On the flip side, there was that one time we had to destroy 5,000 CDs because

Same sort of timeframe, a project I worked on used netwoking via mobile hotspots on a bunch of Android phones with SIMs from a provider that used CGNAT. If the target websites wanted to block that, they'd be blocking well over 10% of a

WordPress right now is very much a "Let's wait and see what happens in the Matt/WPEngine debacle before committing to any new projects" kind of choice. There is a non zero chance that Matt/Automattic/wordpress.

I have gut feel (perhaps only because my echo chamber includes the Rust Evangelism Task Force) that Rust/WASM is likely to become the go to stack for complex web apps. Google (collectively) have written quite a bit about Rust adoption

I wonder if this technique could be used in typical stepper motor controlled "step counting" 3d printers and CNC mills, to provide closed loop servo-like control? Have real time micrometer-precision measurements of your x, y, and

That QNX demo floppy was _magical_ back in the late 90's, revealing just how fast things _could_ feel on a 486 DX2 or DX4 CPU compared to the same use on Linux/Windows at the time. I've always had a somewhat positive view of
