It makes no sense to cheap out on hardware though. It's such a tiny cost compared to the overall cost of the employee, you are wasting money if inadequate hardware is making your employees less productive.

The syntax of a language is an abstraction over what is actually going on under the hood. There's no reason python couldn't have designed their OOP abstraction more elegantly.

I wonder if this could be solved by moving in-progress jobs to a separate table... Guess you lose job atomicity that way.

Channels aren't a way to avoid mutexes/locking, they are just meant to be simpler to write & reason about. Channels are implemented using mutexes under the hood.

An increment like s.current++ isn't atomic either. If two threads increment simultaneously the value may only increase by 1.

> there's 1 mutex to read the channel, not 1 per backend Fewer mutexes isn't necessarily an advantage, there will be far higher contention on that single mutex. Channel writes also require a lock.

Bitfinexed is looking a lot more legitimate since US regulators have started investigating Tether over the same accusations that Bitfinexed levelled against them.

Tether promised a guaranteed 1:1 exchange rate with USD. That guarantee no longer exists, even though the rate is still ~1:1 Tether has no way to enforce that. If it's value tanks there is nothing they can do.

Tether promised that 1 USDT would be backed by 1 USD, and they would always honor a 1:1 exchange rate. Now it turns out that USDT are not backed by USD, and Tether will not exchange between the two. You are reliant on third party exchange s

The rejection is legitimate, but it's still a big issue for developers of Electron apps. The fix should happen in Electron if at all possible.

Because in the past, developers have obfuscated their use of private APIs rather than removing them. They are threatening to ban people who abuse the platform. They aren't going to ban anyone making an honest effort to eliminate their

Swift's GC is really a lot closer to modern C++ style memory management than the other languages you mentioned. If you use RAII & shared_ptr in C++ you are using the exact same techniques that Swift's "GC" uses.
