Is there a reason it could not happen, or do you just think it won't? I wouldn't be so sure in say, ~100 years, that we'll be doing much significant ocean fishing.

Does that actually result in any meaningful differences between these countries in the debate?

And to be fair with GCP, it's not like they released every single offering in 2008, at least I'd assume. Just like how AWS started with I think just a few things like S3 and EC2.

The main reason I couldn't care less about spreadsheets: I have no desire to open a goddamn spreadsheet. Why didn't he just use a sqlite database or something?

You're already down all three, because Chrome was first released in 2008, and Android was also released in 2008, and GCP was apparently released in 2008 as well. Who knew?

I think it's fair to say it's easy to over focus on the quantifiable, but arguably we also fail on even qualifying what exactly we concretely are trying to do. Like, what's the real purpose of school? Does it actually serve t

I'm not sure I agree, I think school does an excellent job at instilling subservience/deference to authority that a year of on the job training, while effective, cannot quite replicate. What's learnt easily is often forgotten

By far the best exploration and novelty I've ever had in terms of cities has come from those cities that embody the '15 minute' approach. Surprise - nobody bans you or even discourages you from travelling away further than

I just don't see how you actually know you're going to get a good quality product without research. Since you have to research to know if the product seen in an advertisement is good anyway, if you do your research well you will c

Does that justify how countries like Cuba dealt with HIV? The problem is that public health can reach fairly extreme levels unless it is checked by a strong conception of individual rights. Otherwise you literally get situations like what h

Hard disagree. Many more bugs are caused by the type coercion of '==' than are caused by people adding verbosity with the use of a single additional character. It also is way easier to read code when you don't have to worry a

It's just a disparaging term for people who think that good software comes only from a full IDE. To be fair though, MS Word is a lot more than a text editor, e.g. you don't save its documents as text documents but as bundles of st

The past was fairly horrible, of course, but we've definitely lost elements of it which were good. For example, commerce where both parties know and care about each other on some level like you might find in a farmers market or similar

You see these kinds of problems in things like the Elm community, where any critical tone is interpreted as a real attack against people. Predictably, the real problems just don't get addressed because the owner(s) are simply incapable

I installed and used Pandoc the other week, and you've likely used it without knowing it (e.g. via web backends) if you don't use it directly. I also use it for Elm (i.e. the Elm compiler) almost every day.
