I use it exclusively for the visor mode. Which I have set up to be like full screen mode on a laptop, but is limited to half the screen when I plug into an external monitor. It's also bound to show/hide on ctrl+`. Unlike most othe

I played with Acme the other day and was blown away. The everything as a command idea is really powerful. Definitely underrated, would be great if it got a modern reboot. For the unfamiliar this video by Russ Cox covers it pretty well. htt

zsh has a simple builtin `r` (which is just an alias for `fc -e -`). It lets you edit the previous command with search and replace. I use it for brew and git a lot. $ brew info rust $ r fo=stal

We had a rule at the company I messengered at: Never ask what’s in the package. But I honestly doubt anyone ever trusted us with drugs, the most memorable things I delivered were A) a pee cup (luckily empty) and B) an industrial size sink f

There is definitely still a market in NYC, but you're right it’s smaller. Architects, lawyers, the fashion industry, and photo/video studios were our major clientele when I was working a few years back.

Biggest thing for me was learning to get up early, and sticking with a schedule even on weekends. A lot of us have the privilege of working flexible hours and for me that meant getting hammered and showing up to work at 11am still a bit hun

Had this exact experience happen to one of my coworkers. We started embedding a secondary “password” in some of our email addresses, by leveraging googles username+tag feature. So something like johndoe@gmail.com becomes johndoe+1bayjdh1x91

I've been thinking this for a while, but I have a feeling there is a decently large market (at least enough to sustain a small company and team) for really nice "dumb" phones. No data; just text, and talk (and in my vision a

What are the odds the 10th result for me was "Learn Python the hard way by Zed Shaw"?

We’ve seen similar results at our company. Plain text emails always get more click throughs in A/B tests. And personally I prefer them. If I must use html, I only stick to the basic styling elements with no css.

Strange, the author neglected to mention the 511 ride share program in NYC, which was encouraging carpooling before Sandy. http://511ny.org/rideshare/

I haven't read through all the comments but standardized and unbiased copy writing would really benefit the site. "Promise to inform about data requests" gets a plus while "No transparency on law enforcement requests" get a minus. Both labe

We're using a subset of the font that only includes the icons we're using on the site. The distributed font contains much more. :)

You can also just use Unicode values. See the icons on the blog page. So something like "ģ" or "\0123" will also work.

Have you tried browsed the Internet for extended periods of time on an iPhone? It's painful. The mobile experience still sucks for 90% of the web, bandwidth is limited and slow, and don't even imagine having all your standard tabs open. Mob

This has nothing to do with tipping. Groupon is a flawed business model. Consumers who are willing to pay $ for something are not going to be repeat customers who will then pay $$$ for the same thing. It's a modified pyramid scheme, the onl
