Some older video game consoles have been "emulated" in FPGA. You just map out the circuitry of a device and voila you get native performance without the bugs of a software implementation.

I believe it's more about manipulating pagerank with networks of "fake" websites.

Do you happen to know what the v2 dedup size is when compressed? 32.1TB is quite a bit, but if that compresses down to say 3-6TB, it would be much more manageable. Code has a lot of whitespace, repetition, and structure/predictability,

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. That's not to say that a 70B model is necessary, but surely something larger than 3B is doable, especially given that the results of the paper directly imply a significant reduction

Does anyone know of any truly open source LLM model, that's better than GPT2? How do researchers reproduce results in this space?

Somewhat tangential question, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a solution (or Google search terms for this): I have a 3U supermicro server chassis that I put an AM4 motherboard into, but I'm looking at upgrading the Mobo so th

IANAL but I think the "you grant us" part is what is key. If a license is not yours to grant, then that license is not theirs to receive.

As someone who is currently driving his Grandma to daily radiation treatment for throat cancer (yes she smokes before and after every treatment), I highly recommend that you don't smoke, or at the very least don't develop a habit.

Vent away! Sounds frustrating for sure. As much as I love Microsoft/Windows for the work they have put into WSL, I ended up just putting Kubuntu on my devices and use QEMU with GPU passthrough whenever I need Windows. Gaming perf is go

The latest version of CUDA is 12.3, and version 12.2 came out 6 months prior. How many people are running an older version of CUDA right now on NVIDIA hardware for whatever particular reason? Even if AMD lagged support on CUDA versioning, I

I'm not an expert in this discussion by any means, but my two cents is that collaboration on larger teams is easier on the microservice path than the monolith path. I would expect that over the course of years, the uptime and feature v

Even if 100 page decks don't go away, AI can be leveraged to find the 2 or 3 pages that actually matter. Google search has become worse and worse over the years, I could see using an AI plugin that performs a search on top of the Googl

To capture depth the cameras would need to be augmented with LIDAR. LIDAR is insanely more expensive than a regular camera. Budget friendly LIDAR systems that I've seen will have "refresh rates" in the realm of 2Hz or 8Hz and

People said the same thing about Avatar 2. I think the criticism in the media comes from "film purists" who are bothered that the smoothness catches their eye in a certain way, and instead of trying to get used to it over time wil

The parent comment I was responding to was discussing splitting encodes across multiple computers then re-combining which is what I was referring to. Still sounds like it is possible and I was incorrect.

Why did the encode time increase by 10x in that instance? Can't you just seek in the video to the I-frame before the cut point and start your encode there? I've never tried merging streams across computers so was naively just thin

x264 opponents are earlier versions of AV1, namely VP8 and VP9. x265 should be what is compared against AV1 when discussing quality and encode speeds. We use x264 for compatibility purposes, if your device is intended to play video, it will

It depends on what bitrate you are targeting, and the source content. AV1 does not outperform H265 at high bitrates (and in certain cases, medium bitrates). What is considered "high bitrate" is dependent on source content, but a g

This is done particularly when you are implementing adaptive bitrates (the thing that Netflix uses where it automatically sends you a higher or lower quality picture depending on your Internet connection). In adaptive bitrate world, you spl

Try encoding with a "low-latency" or a "fast-decode" parameter, and see if that is acceptable to you. Keep in mind not all AV1 encoders are created equal. If you're on Windows I recommend using StaxRip for encoding.

It's around 5% (maybe 10%?) larger file sizes for same visual quality at the moment. For archival I think that's fine, as storage is cheap, it can still be a problem when you pay for outbound bandwidth to users.
