I wonder how the IRS will choose to treat it. If you solve a block, have you made income or realized a capital gain? When you convert BTC into a national currency, what gain have you realized? (Current_price - Price_at_generation)? It seems

Are you referring to Addison Lee? I was under the impression that they only used motorbikes for courier service.

You should have put a mailinator.com address in your account profile. If you would, drop me an e-mail (see profile). My employer is hiring. Located near Moorgate. Not a deathmarch. Edit: Hmm.. I think HN hides e-mail addresses. http://bhic

This morning I ran into a No campaigner leafleting at Camden Tube station. When he tried handing me a leaflet, I informed him that I had just voted Yes. As I walked away, he shouted that I must be "LibDem scum".

Floats are great, you just need to understand when to use them! If you want to use them for an application where you're doing frequent multiplications or divisions, I strongly suggest log transforming your domain and replacing your multipli

This is why I advise working for a company with a balanced IP policy. I would never consider doing otherwise. At present, all I need to do is disclose any 'potentially business related' projects to my employer. For 90 days from the date of

I'm not referring to a particular essay. RMS has a large body of work. The point I'm making is that rather than dismiss a critic in that manner, he could have pointed him to something useful. If he'd done that, folks on HN wouldn't be grumb

He could have at least had the good sense to say something like... I am skeptical of your position. I wrote an essay on a similar topic back in 1988, here's a link.

I don't see the price point working. While I'm sorely tempted to shell out $300 for Adobe Lightroom, I am unwilling to use a service that charges me by the image. A subscription model might be more palatable to users. Some cursory searching

This is proving to be an interesting read, but I have much different design goals in mind than the author. I'm interested in simulation, and this sort of RNG is useless for that purpose. I would go as far to say this approach is useless for

The think of the children squad is immune to reason. They'll smear your name and then your colleagues will look at you funny when you wander into the office at 10:30.

When the company is the first to give a number, you always get the job, and you have a 50% chance of getting a high salary. No... Let's say you're going to the store to get milk. Either milk will be on sale or milk will not be on

As a teaching assistant I occasionally came across cheaters. Dealing with them can be a very painful process. In one case students were plagiarizing homework assignments. The instructor invited the accused into his office and presented them

I suspect for purposes of key distribution. If <huge company> doesn't feel like playing Zed's game, they could easily forgo issuing a GPG key. By using SSL, he's strong arming them into participating.

It's rare, but not unheard of even outside of CS. A friend of mine is finishing up his degree at Brown University having never graduated from high school. Instead he joined up and did three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a pararescueman.
