Another problem that would be trivially solved 100% correctly with proper data tagging. Pareto solution: look up that person’s Twitter account which often also include pronouns if they care about that.

Small nitpick. In both chains the attack happened. But in one chain the whole community decided to disown the attacker by injecting hard coded transactions that would send the Ethers back to their original owners.

So nobody will be able to recover them if you are hit by a bus or develop dementia? This problem is harder if you want to pass on your crypto after you can't use them anymore.

The proper support is still very limited. You can still do "bool b = 10" or "int i = true". C being C ("everything is an int") this will be coerced to 1.

I remember a 2 hours debugging session when I started learning Objective-C. I don't remember what I did wrong but I somehow tripped over Objective-C's boolean which isn't a proper type but just a macro of an int value like it

Neither on SE nor here I could find a mention of dead keys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_key I can't claim I know how they relate exactly to the accented characters being encoded in character sets but they

I didn't comment on the character sets but on the claim that text being drawn as bitmaps instead with a fixed character mode was "a very new development". At least 40 years is not very new.

It's not "only". A similar question is why does ASCII have a control character for ringing a bell? The answer is that the character sets were designed with specific hardware in mind and often with backwards compatibility. The

Why? Back in the day you could output a text file directly onto the printer and it would print, possibly interpreting control characters like backspace or carriage return to overwrite existing characters. For that, the printer would also ne

It's fortunate for us that kangaroos and sled dogs don't hunt us. We didn't need to be the best distance runners. It was enough to be the best distance running hunter of the local area.

Better than before is not necessarily good. There are still lots of warts and gotchas. In that regard JavaScript is a lot like C++. You can write pretty good C++ if you know what you are doing but the old ways are still possible and haunt y

Pretty harsh words for an issue that is not really language specific. Numbers are not as easy as they seem. Computer numbers are not the same as the numbers from mathematics. Is "0.5" supposed to be a floating point number or a ra

I think there is also a gotcha there as you get a ratio in Common Lisp and not a floating point number. > (print (format t "1 divided by 2 is ~a and its type is ~a" (/ 1 2) (type-of (/ 1 2)))) > 1 divided by 2 is 1
