Very nice breakdown and analysis of the business model. I too agree that assuming 2.5 hours per day on average is a stretch. I generally listen to more than that, but i'm fortunate enough to have a job where I listen to music while working.

Agreed, this is more of an item to check off on a list than an actual, meaningful feature. It's the kind of thing that some exec who doesn't understand the details will take comfort in, even though at the end of the day the benefit is minim

Absolutely, forgot to consider that. That might be a bigger reason.

He fails to understand the main reason that home developers want to build neighborhoods with lots of cul-de-sacs: Homes on cul-de-sacs sell for more money. The more of these you can squeeze into a given neighborhood, the more money you'll m

The secondary index stuff is actually very new, so it's entirely possible that it didn't exist when you last looked at Riak. More info here http://blog.basho.com/2011/09/14/Secondary-Indexes-in-Riak/

Each dyno (isolated running process) is given the same type of container to run in and the difference in data storage is trivial (a couple megs of gems). In this case it's more about making it simple to get started. Rails has a fairly large

Out of curiosity, what makes you think our data services aren't reliable or scalable?

Actually, it's more like this: Use Force.com for rapidly developing an app that integrates with Salesforce or fits within the limited scope of what that platform offers. For everything else, use Heroku.

I believe it's rather a lack of something more fundamental -- a problem with the emergent culture in general that has led to a lack of focus on education in the minds of many youth -- other things have taken priority. I strongly agree. Ho
