ELB health checks have a minimum interval of 2 seconds. Also, when you hit the threshold for consecutive failures (2 or 3), the ELB immediately closes all connections to that backend without waiting for their responses to finish.

Actually, no. Using unicorn with only 2 workers makes a tremendous difference, not just incremental. RapGenius' own statistical model demonstrates this. Picture each individual dyno in that case as its own "intelligent router". Since it's n

It may not be, but I guess it depends on what you have handy. But most of the info will still be useful no matter what hardware you use :) I did this with an old Mac Mini that was acting mostly as a media server. My router wasn't compatible

I’ve come to the conclusion that Heroku must be using adaptive processes to sandbag us. For example, to save on their resources, they must be creating static caches of the pages which are being requested from these cron pings. They could a

Lawyers are very expensive, especially good ones. The man might have had a couple million in the bank, tops. Considering the 2 years since indictment and the trial hadn't even started yet, that's a lot of legal time on the books.

The ActiveRecord query that caused this was along the lines of: User.find_by_email_and_token(params[:email], params[:token]) If the token is nil, it basically turns into a `find_by_email`. I'll also add that while we had tests that

As hgimenez said, the best way is to not store your secrets in your source tree at all (12factor.net style). Keep them in the environment. Here's a great example: https://github.com/democrats/voter-registration/commit/2fa87...
