Actually is is so weak, that it would be stomped out 1000:0 by modern engines. I like the methodology too, but the conclusions are not defendable.

The problem here likely is, that your first expression was not well defined for x=0 and seemingly the poor approximation code stumbled over it. Shame on it!

With gcc [1] and clang [2] you always had the option "-foptimize-sibling-calls", to get away with tail calls even for debug builds. Of course having this standardized, guaranteed and at the function level is a huge improvement. [1

It is obious that all of these problems are still way too hard, although sometimes it has ideas. It flawlessly demonstrates how to simplify (2002^2002) mod 9. I recall that there was once a scandalous university exam for future math teacher

I like the idea to use super additivity, but in a proof you cannot creatively extend T to the reals, this should be fixed. Here is the slightly mopped up proof i had in mind, when i posted my hints below: Let be r>=1 and 0<a(i) fo

<It’s not straightforward to prove why this is O(n). Replace T(n/5) with T(floor(n/5)) and T(7n/10) with T(floor(7n/10)) and show by induction that T(n) <= 10n for all n.

We have to make sure, that if there is a "D" on one side, there must be a "3" on the other side. If we see a "3", we are done, otherwise if there is not a "3" we have to check that there is no "D
