Actually, I take it back -- you are probably wiser than me, pre-empting the systemd battles that always ensue :-D.

Why is this downvoted? It is interesting (and worth pointing out), since not using systemd is different from every "enterprise" Linux distro out there.

I like this. It makes a lot of sense to use something like Alpine Linux for Docker images. If you're going to build a 'process container' like Docker -- something that does not encourage the same mindset as a traditional cont

I actually did this in an app a few years ago, and completely forgot about it for a while. I only remembered when another dev sent a surprised e-mail. Ya gotta make time for fun...

I see your point, but I think the counterpoint is that there is a huge difference between 1. getting a warrant and running down to the book shop to ask them about what a single suspect bought, and 2. Having enormous amounts of data collecte

Truck drivers, huh? Well, I'm sure there's a convenient free-market solution for all of these people losing their jobs in the next 10 years to self-driving vehicles. Maybe 'automated truck refueling technician'?

The fact that none of the other commenters above made this connection is a bit strange for a community of Tech/Internet/Web people. Is all of this really that shiny?

This sounds really exciting; I'll definitely try it. I loved (and bought) EV: Nova, and have been pining for something similar (an open-world, multiple-storyline, space opera/trading/2D-adventure game). I tried playing X2 and

This is an interesting project to watch. I only use it with a few friends, but it's definitely something that I hope grows. It's sort of a combination of P2P filesharing, anonymous forums, e-mail, and chat. Useful stuff.

FreeBSD jails are like a really mature, full-featured version of LXC as opposed to "just a chroot". In addition to being chroot that provides real filesystem isolation without many of the security issues of a Linux chroot, it al

I completely agree. I actually deleted a bunch of my comment before posting it, because I started getting carried away pondering about what the right level of abstraction is for dealing with web resources. At the risk of sounding like one o

Wow, this is a really interesting way to think about web resources. After about two minutes of playing around with this, it gave me a more pleasant experience of the web than I've had in a while.

Thanks for this link; it's a really great read. I immediately thought, "I've had that idea!" (but then realized that I first had the idea to make per-website chat rooms after this guy had already done it). Fascinating.

I think I've seen this before, in a post somewhere by one of their developers. I think it was about how insecure X11 is, because any X11 app can listen for all keystrokes made by the user. AFAIK people jumped on that post as "it&#

Sorry, could you define 'ratholing'? I'm having trouble imagining my job search as a. covertly taking my chips off the table during a Poker game, or b. living in a small, messy room. Thanks again!

First, thanks for this comment. You're right -- reframing the problem is exactly what I need to do. I'm now improving my CV as a second strategy while searching for a company I really want to work for. This, as you can imagine,
