Yep. If I just naturally lay my hand down on something, my middle and ring fingers do tend to naturally come together. It takes a tiny bit of intent to splay my fingers out. Portrait artists constantly study people very closely and are like

Would it be legal to just “clone” Photoshop or Lightroom as a FOSS project? I mean create a nearly exact clone. Everything down to the layout, tools, menus, options, etc. Who would Adobe sue? Could they make it illegal to distribute?

Same with Lightroom. I still use v4 and it’s still better than anything else available today. I try all the alternatives annually and nothing has as comprehensive and complete a toolset.

The use weasel terms like “such as” and “may include” are great big red flags. “Your vehicle purchase may include items such as a steering wheel and brakes.”

Not to mention there realistically aren’t any alternatives. For what it’s worth, their products are unfortunately still best in class in most categories.

It seems like coordinating the supply of available units is the real evil (and maybe illegal) part. Pricing information is public, but inventory is typically not, at least in this context. A cabal deliberately keeping supply down to drive p

My favorite part of Copilot is when it auto-completes a call to a function that does exactly what I need to do, like magic! Except that function doesn't exist and never did. LLMs don't know what they don't know, so they just

That describes the whole internet. It was never meant to be anything more, so that's what we got. Which was fine, until we had the bright idea of feeding it all into a neural network as a collection of facts. Then we gave that neural n

Did this at camp in the way deep woods. The troop I was in was sort of “outside” the mainstream campers. It was a blast though. So many good memories. I would definitely recommend it if you’ve got the space.

That’s a really good point. A variation of the Streisand Effect. Makes you wonder what misdeeds they’re trying so hard to hide.

Right? I take Slack and Salesforce at their word. They’re good companies and look out for the best interests of their customers. They have my complete trust.

“… splitting off bits of the company and massive outsourcing to screw labor as hard as possible.” I think that’s the key point. I don’t think Boeing could have built _any_ aircraft successfully with that business strategy and culture. If no

I agree, but I just don’t see an alternative future if we want to maintain an open platform for the global exchange of ideas. I also don’t feel like this changes the privacy debate. I’m not naive enough to think Google and 1000 other data b

I was thinking the other day if lab grown wood would be viable, like lab grown meat. Maybe genetically engineered trees that all grow in nominal dimensions like Minecraft trees.

Quitting nicotine ends up being a lifetime battle for most people in my experience. I’ve know too many people who simply cannot quit smoking, even when it’s clear they’re rotting from the inside out. Nicotine addiction is on an entirely dif

Same. In fact my biggest worry is that the software will be abandoned and as cars age, edge case bugs will appear, but there’ll be no way to fix them. There’s going to need to be a robust aftermarket for vehicle software. Though, I don’t kn
