This is actually a good analogy to doing a startup. Many people want to buy bitcoins, but only the ones that are really commited to doing so succeed. It's very easy to say you wanted to buy Bitcoin, but did you really try that hard?

I'm also from the EU and used to have BTC (now I'm into LTC), so here is how I do it: Register in Bitstamp or Kraken (my favourite exchanges). Validate your account. You have to provide some sort of proof of identity and address.
