Right, but isn't the ignorance of actual human character shortcomings a huge reason why communism can't ever work, even on paper? People are inherently self-interested. I would argue that any proposal for an economic system or gov

European socialism isn't bad. But how does it work when you have such varied cultures like the US? Outside of some existential threat like war, it doesn't seem at all possible for everyone in the US to start rowing in the same dir

One explanation I've found pretty accurate: When the young start to become educated (late teens, early 20's) they face the realization that they will be entering the world on the bottom of the economic totem pole. There are two pr

This isn’t surprising. Mentioning facts like that would violate the narrative.

> Assuming those are all members paying $205 a year, that's about $29 million a year. It's easy to imagine a scenario where that number doubles to a future 300,000 riders, which would net about $61.5 million. That's a lot

Quite the leap. I’m not sure why the original comment even mentions this person is trans. How is that relevant to the situation other than to trigger the “victim” alarm in some people’s minds? Also, how presumptuous of you to assume I’m cis

> The real problem right now is a lack of a social safety net Is that the real problem here? Unemployment in the United States is incredibly low and those who want to find good work for good pay are able to.

I don’t think retribution is the main goal. The point is to keep demonstrated antisocial people who cause significant disruption and harm in our society in a place where they can’t hurt us.

Is that how it works? I thought it was the other way around: states/municipalities made their budgets and spread the property tax liability around according to the property value in proportion to the sum total value of all property. So

The point I think the parent is trying to make is that there are now many people who see all of human behavior as some sort of construct vs. innate behaviors that exist all over the animal kingdom. In fact, very few behaviors are specific t

Overly strong employment isn't necessarily ideal. We could have official 0% unemployment by just paying people to stay home. Labor shortages and unchecked wage growth supports inflation.

IMO the Fed is trying very hard to regain credibility after the overblown stimulus and terribly delayed response to the resulting inflation. These are two very public failures. Everyone is expecting a quick pivot which is why I think that i

Good, but asset values are still near historical high valuations. The Fed plan isn't to just tame inflation but reduce employment to slow wage increases, reverse asset gains with "higher for longer", and restore credibility.

With the current unskilled labor shortage driving wage increases which pushes inflation up, this seems to be arriving just in the time.

In the US, this is very common in the higher education Social Sciences. It is necessary to align with the professor’s (usually left) slant to secure the best marks. This is common knowledge for students in the US.
