BOSIET and HUET classes are a blast, if you spend any time on/around the water for work, I'd highly recommend getting signed into one ASAP. If you're not going to be in arctic areas, most facilities offer a T (Tropical) BOSIET that's a bit

Dubai has been 'out' of oil for a while. Most of the petrochem coming out of the UAE is currently in Abu Dhabi and RAK. The whole idea of building all of this up was to serve as a middle eastern city for the post-oil economy. The success

There is in the diplomatic area. There's been talk in the papers about proper addresses being rolled out sometime soon but I imagine the squabbling over naming rights for the roads will take a while to sort out.

All great points, but I will point out that the major cost item on high speed (or any rail for that matter) is the rail itself. The cars and locomotive are relatively cheap, but you're looking at figures of $1M+ USD per mile of track.

Oh another iPhone dock! Kickstarter hasn't had enough of those lately, is it possible they're having an attack of conscience / trying to keep from being too pigeonholed, and thus the rejection?

I was thinking the same thing - either Moon or Mars Crew / Cargo / Colony Transporter. It's an exciting time around these parts, and as I understand it the Merlin concept is pretty scaleable. Perhaps the new fuel he's speaking of is some s

I don't want to put it badly, but I feel like microsoft is really fumbling this by putting 2 months between the software going into circulation and the hardware it's been designed for launching. I'm about in the market for a new laptop or

Hold on there hot shot, they're likely saying the required scanning resolution of submittals. While not incredibly clear, 300dpi is the general high-resolution setting on most scanners and they're just indicating as such.

This is an interesting read, but the author is also a political science professor. If this article had been by a mathematics educator, it might be a bit more persuasive. I'd argue that algebra is fundamental - the excerpts taken involve th

Paint it green? On a serious note: Heat the building with server heat, cool it using grey/waste water instead of air conditioning, add insulation and let outside air in at night, put plants all around, keep the lights off unless you're wor

I like the idea that you're chasing after, as relationships are like startups in a lot of ways (and I'm sure the comparison has been made plenty of times before). Some are abusive, some fizzle, some make their founders wildly rich. It'd b

This is pretty cool. The explosion from the 70s and 80s is really interesting from a design perspective. Rooting around the electrical flea market in san jose a few years back I saw some of these in person...quite the sight in this day an

It's not a stereotype - I guess it depends on who you're working with. Most of the supervisors I know don't tend to break things out of clumsiness but more out of stress, and many of them aren't so good with computers, even the guys that u

Guys, I'm not trying to pooh-pooh on the parade, but it looks like none of the founders have ever touched the construction industry. A) There is no organ for document submittal or review from the limited options here B) You assume that this
