This is a great example of when a company needs to make a new product and not simply add capability to an old one. They decided to go with Apple Intelligence, which was partway there, but leveraging Siri branding is a mistake. It's als

This may be true, but if incurring pain is necessary to get right, I would appreciate a bit more Milei style "tough love" messaging instead of just yelling "we're the greatest" all the way down.

It's really a result of the US being so heterogeneous. One side's status quo is the other side's in-progress radical reinvention. The pendulum is always on the move. You have to take the average position on a longer time scal

I mean on one hand we can do better but on the other, last I checked there's not been a time where citizens were hauled off to prison in the US for disparaging capitalism. Closest we came was the red scare in the 50s and that was tame

Yes, communist nations especially need to protect the narrative that their way is the best way. Having the Taiwanese sitting off shore thriving outside of party control is embarrassing.

As with everything it's about the relationship. If you do this 3 times in a row and receive "stop, please don't" then obviously you're off in some regard. If you do it 3 times in a row and get praise, then keep goin

Sure so then ask yourself what advantages could an NPU have over a general purpose GPU. Your assumption is that Apple has erred. However if security was top priority, then that could make NPU make sense in the long run. And then ask why sec

Right??! Others are downvoting me for supposedly inventing a conspiracy theory but to me it lines up pretty well with their business and could offer some compelling value to customers. Most people haven't read up on their private cloud

Their private cloud for AI reads on the surface like the answer. If they can establish privacy then they can push the work to the edges. Again, I'm not saying the are. They're the only ones that could, though.

I'm not saying they currently are. They wouldn't until they knew that whatever they were doing was utterly secure. I'm just positing that they might be going there.

Maybe there's zero evidence now, but think about the lengths to which Apple has gone to build a private cloud infrastructure and why they would do so. It's one thing for them to offer that as a do-gooder service to their customers

Looks more and more that Apple is pushing AI inference to the edges, with this and the Mac Mini and it's very suspiciously placed power button which says "No, you don't need to shut this computer off. It has important work to

This is amazing and of course reminds me of Sketchfab. Nice work. I feel like people don't really get Gaussian Splats and what the advantages are over polygons.

It seems like it would be in the phone companies's best interests to clean up phone calls. The one case where we should be willing to interrupt what we're doing is when someone calls. That's how it always was and it was okay.

This article has reduced it too far. Yes, the game has gotten optimized... for the moment. However a few years ago the complaint was that it was only about 3s. Now it's about 3s... and defense... and floor spread... and layups... and s

I built a garage with a flat roof to accommodate a solar system. I assumed it would make sense. However between the city rules on setback and the extra cost of a grid-connected system, it didn't make sense. Since then I've been st

Is anyone sad that power efficiency is now important? Apple M chips have wiped the floor with everyone else and it's about time we got good performance without heating the room up.

It's entirely possible, technically. The problems become more about design and what's fun. If you want to see state of the art in physics and collision, check out Dennis Gustafsson's work. He created the game Teardown. https

The reason that Jet Island doesn't make you sick is mostly that it does a lot of work to tie the movement to your physical actions. Games like Gorilla Tag have done well here also. The major insult to our vestibular system via visual i
