By your reasoning you're not expecting people to use the same software for more than ~4 years. I bought Adobe Master Collection CS4 (student edition, for $1000) way back in 2008 and have been using it for the past ten years. It runs e

Shouldn't your same argument apply to the "under 18 crowd"? Why is it a "nanny state" to force adults to wear helmets but not children and teenagers? Alternatively, shouldn't grown adults be able to make thei

I never really understood fingerprint scanners on phones. Is it really more useful to you than e.g. a headphone jack?

Realistically though, they really did have no choice but to take out expensive loans for the best school they could get into. Long term, choosing to go to e.g. a cheaper community college or not attending college at all costs much more tha

I once tried to take the Taylor series idea further and define the "cosine" of a type as the Taylor expansion of cos(x), but didn't get anywhere with it. Can you do anything else weird with ADTs?

I think you might have it backwards. Permanent DST would result in more light in the evenings. (Unless there's a difference between EU and US daylight savings that I am misunderstanding). As it is now, in November we will subtract on

Well said. News articles/editorials/blogs are especially bloated these days. It often not worth spending the mental effort when not a lot of mental effort was put into the writing.

For what it's worth, I love the fact that Jupyter is browser-based. > It's the entire reason it's so easy to format text / math in a Jupyter notebook. There's Markdown + MathJax for basic interactive formatt

I would argue that mod is more intuitive. I imagine the integers being partitioned into contiguous bins of size b, and computing a % b means counting which index in the bin it is. This can be done visually too!

Yeah, this space feels pretty saturated already, and people seem to use the same topics / presentation / ordering over and over. What a ton of duplicate effort! It'd be nice to see a course try to put its own spin on "m

Looks interesting. Is it worth reading in English with the heavy censorship? From what I can tell English readers aren't left with a real conclusion to the story.

I think this is too black and white of a perspective. First off, plenty of people buy cars they can't afford out of necessity. Or, rather, they NEED a car for work and buy a cheap used car that inevitably needs repairs and sucks up mo
