For those in the UK still interested, CinemaParadiso is a really good DVD/Blu-Ray rental service https://www.cinemaparadiso.co.uk/ I feel like a luddite sometimes but I really love movies and hate the limited selection

In The Traveller's Tree by Patrick Leigh Fermor, a travelogue from the Caribbean, he gives an account of water divination. He initially sees it as some voodoo myth, and is taken aback when they repeatedly find water.

I actually had this happen, and RAID Z2 saved me from a very long recovery process. I thought it might be the controller but a year on I've had no further issues. Sometimes drives do just go like lightbulbs.

Yeah in my experience you need a 'thermal transfer' printer instead. Uses a ribbon to transfer the ink rather than treated paper. A lot of manufacturers make the same printer in thermal transfer or direct thermal models.

I have this with movies. I don't back them up because of the storage requirements. Everything is ripped from BluRays that I own, but... can I be bothered re-doing them?

My mate's family had one, and I thought it was really cool as a kid. Then I started using it and wondered what people actually used it for, it seemed to do nothing I was used to doing on other computers. And even though now it's o

Yeah most banks let you do this online too, so it's really simple. I have lots of magazine subscriptions and it's one-click to cancel.

I don't understand the interval thing. Anyone who knows what 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' sounds like knows what an octave sounds like, and anyone who has seen 'Star Wars' knows a perfect fifth. Does he mean two not

I have a 2003 Citroen and it's easy to find the service manual but very hard to use it. It's not a PDF you can just flip through, it's software. You have to run it in a windows XP VM, following a very specific set of installa

Howdy, that's almost me! AMA! I've spent 10 years as the lone dev at a small medical facility, writing database software and dealing with lab hardware etc. I guess I've touched 100% of the codebase because I wrote it all, but

I worry about this with most components of e-bikes. I suppose a mid-drive one is probably always gonna have parts you can replace but custom kit like VanMoof seems ready for landfill.
