Yes, if it's rolling on a hemispherical dome then it's always been rolling, unless an external force pushed it.

Amazing. Next step would be to propose hardcoding 99930-3999 as the O(1) result and live with the output just being wrong sometimes. The bug rate is then in the ballpark of most modern software, including LLMs', so I'd say ship it

Or the other obvious optimization to hard-code the lookup in code as a huge list, instead of creating it first.

The input generation is outside the scope of this. Otherwise you could directly choose the output values with the apropriate distribution and just skip all the rest. (Arguably, this criticism applies to exchanging random.randint for a numpy

Not exactly. Only for quanta that are not inherently countable. Let's not lose track of what this tread is about, shall we? It's "what is larger, the number of stars in the milky way or the national debt?" One of those v

> consumers, a.k.a. morons. Wtf man. Some of the smartest people I know have no interest in getting anywhere close to sw eng or working anywhere in IT, so are by definition "consumers". Just wait until one of those "morons

The way we measure gold, be it ounces or kilograms, is also arbitrary. Unless you count atoms.

> versus just a quick chat, Everybody is free to keep a blog for this kind of informal chat/brainstorming kind of communication. Paper publications should be well-written, structured, thought-through results that make it worthwhile

To supply a counter viewpoint here... The opposite is the "least publishable unit" which leads to loads and loads of almost-nothing results flooding the journals and other publication outlets. It would be hard to keep up with all

Nice to see other real experts (and a bit of celebrities) in here. (For the uninitiated: Burntsushi of ripgrep fame.)

Having burried a bunch of boxes with cards inside is art? I can see the artistic value of the full magic act, but does that make a tool used in the act to itself be art on its own? Is the bow used by a violin player in itself a piece of art

This is so full of office politics that I'm glad I'm working at a place without it. One tell-tale sign is that the article talks as much about which important contributions "won't get you there" as about which will.

Though, would the burrying have any meaning without the reveal? Its only purpose was to be used in the end. I have a hard time seeing the meaning of the burrying itself.
