Not sure about the race / sexuality stuff but my life would be in turmoil if google took away my google account. I have possibly hundreds of accounts linked to it, as well as correspondence and billing info for 10s of physical services

To be wildly pedantic, pessimistic rendering would then be immediately showing an error, only to later clear the error away if the request is successful.

Call centers are going to have to become more accommodating about this. If they make customers wait for hours but can't wait seconds for someone to get on the line, they should be considered effectively unreachable by phone.

It wouldn't surprise me if mask wearing did become pretty common place after this. I think some people view it as such a minor inconvenience that it would be worth it to wear during flu season.

You describe the role of a contractor here, not an employee. The tools that I need, like a computer, an IDE, an Internet Connection, Software Licenses, and reference documents, should all be provided by the employer.
