Sweet! I learned to program by writing a Forth compiler. Was an excellent way to learn. I only discovered Lisp much later, and definitely like what I see, but haven't gotten around to learning it properly yet. Interestingly, Lisp people thi

Fair enough -- I've changed it to make that clear. No hard feelings :-), but perhaps a bit harsh to bam it as spam?

Does it really look like spam? Why? Several "startup types" have already found it useful, and at $3, you can hardly lose. To get a lawyer to write you something similar might cost you $300. I posted it because I honestly thought it might be

The Fox article talks about protecting kids from "lurid photos", but the first thing I thought when I went to http://www.missamericakids.com/ was, "what, did I click on the right link?" +10 for PikLuk!

I just went through half of this tonight, and it's superb. I had a working "compiler" in about an hour. Except I wrote it in C instead of Pascal, and it compiled to Forth (or really "stack computer bytecode").

Not sure it matters too much for sites that have login page that aren't https, but better not to email people their passwords (clear text). It also indicates you're probably storing passwords in the clear, see http://www.codinghorror.com

Cause and effect is a complex thing, but at least partly because of Paul Graham, I quit a 9-5 job and tried to start a startup. Whether that was a wise thing to do or not, given the circumstances, is quite another question. :-) So PG's a

Then again, even apart from the fact that a qsort() is built into most languages, Quicksort is very nearly as simple to implement as Bubble Sort.

Good point. Similar to IP and TCP -- from an embedded programmer's perspective, IP is one of the most icky and hardware-unfriendly protocols around. When my friend was at university, they told them about IP just in passing, saying, "it'll d
