Very good read. I was just hacking around with a tiny Python program that implemented enough to init, add, commit, and push itself to GitHub. It's all very simple until you get to the index format ... which isn't that bad, but it&

Yeah, the feature set might be good (better than GitHub, I don't know), but every time I try GitLab or use Bitbucket, they're just so sluggish compared to GitHub it puts me off. Edit: I just tried GitLab again, and it looks like t

Interestingly, I think that's what isinstance() actually does when it's called on abstract base classes like collections.abc.Iterable -- it looks to see whether the type supports __iter__ and whatnot. See the abc module and it

The "obvious weakness" is the non-technical part of this: you can sign up to Dropbox (and most services for that matter) with an extremely weak password. I just signed up with a dummy email address and a password of "password

The code has been updated stylistically, and I'm not sure what else has changed. Here's the old (Python 2.5) version from http://web.archive.org/web/20160110135619/http://norvig.com/... :

Do you have your curriculum in a shareable format, or even just an outline? I'm going to start teaching programming to high schoolers soon and would love to see that.

That's very intriguing to me -- I've rarely/never seen it be slower , and usually at least several times faster. Are you using benchmark.py? If so, can you send a link to a Gist with the output? It may be that the C module i

No, not necessarily at all -- there's a ton of pure Python code in the standard library, so if you're adding to or making improvements there, no need to know C. And then there's documentation and other non-code issues too.

If you don't know about modulus, you don't have to re-implement it. For Fizzbuzz you're looping anyway, so you can just maintain two counters, one that counts to 3 and resets, and one that counts to 5 and resets. When one of

I think it actually makes sense for something like Ansible to use Python 2 because it's about controlling lots of remote machines on various Linux distros, and the idea is that it's agentless. If you suddenly have to install an &q
