I dunno about you guys, but as a college student that frequently takes internships, I move every 4-6 months. Having a really powerful desktop that can be thrown back into its (incredibly well designed) original box and shipped here, there,

Nice to see a fellow Leykis listen here on HN. Props for the reference. Almost guaranteed the show will be about this on Monday. For the unfamiliar: blowmeuptom.com

Honestly, for code that controls millions of dollars worth of business and could seriously screw over a lot of people if a subtle flaw was introduced, I don't see a problem with doing it this way. Might be overkill for one line of code, but

Are we sure about Basho being fully distributed? Their "careers" page lists positions in particular cities and gives a few office addresses.

I couldn't agree more. I am 20-something and have always worked for startups with older founders - I actually respected them and always learned a lot. Meanwhile, the atmosphere in some of the incubators is little better than a frat boy club

Every ride I've taken with Uber has been exactly the fee presented before getting in the vehicle and with no tip expected. Eh? At what point do you give it a destination so that it can present you with an estimated price? The only time it

One reason I hope Amazon Silk takes off is so that sites can no longer afford to do that, lest they incur a support nightmare.

So Cray used to make unique, iconic supercomputers and now their secret sauce has been reduced to some interconnect for gluing together mass-market bits like the next ODM? Who drove them out of the supercomputer market? I know IBM still sel

Every year we’re throwing more and more JS on top of the web, dooming our best intended semantic thoughts to suffocation in the Turing tar pit. JS libraries are the “fuck it, we’ll do it live!” of the web. Still waiting for someone to inv

I'm all about the Acura NSX, the 20-year old car that still seems to be from the future. But I'm a weirdo, most folks my age really like the Audi R8, and yes, the Tesla.

Hmm, my experience with that has been that it's not actually that fast - certainly nowhere near a hardware RAID controller. But hey, the benchmarks don't lie. This is pretty cool! And two SSDs probably sucks less battery than one HDD and

Have you considered allowing people to optimize for something other than cost? I'd be very interested in paying people to find me mileage runs - that is, itineraries that minimize the cost per mile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequent-f
