I tried to sign up recently with yahoo to access a yahoo group and they demanded a phone number which I didn't want to give them, so I gave up.

This used to be much easier when I was young. Freeware vs Shareware. Just searching for "freeware <x>" would normally find me the truly free (as in beer) thing if there were multiple versions.

The frontend part can still use a secure password mechanism which is then hashed to a password suitable for the underlying backend system. There's no reason to keep the bad decisions from decades ago as a part of a modern system, even

I don't understand this. It's pretty much standardised on micro-usb anyway. Any enforcement of this is just going to be a pain as better technologies arise (USB type C).

I'm not too concerned about the vulnerability but just amazed at the technology. Those tiny little microsd cards contains a microcontroller running at 100mhz equivalent. Didn't ever really consider that

There's nothing special about ground, it's the same as a digital pin set to low (from an M/C perspective). You don't need to have two separate grids. Just try out combinations of pins as data/power and ground until

I was anticipating a very smart connecting board that can determine two working connections and disable the others. I wasn't arguing it's completely viable but simply that it's not beyond the laws of physics as OP suggested :

Yeah I used to hang around the forums waiting for Noctis V. He was developing it in Linoleum, which is his own portable assembly language that he wrote. It's still available and an interesting experiment.

What about counterparty risk? With eGoldCoin, you have to trust the issuer to actually have the gold that's backing the coins in circulation, and to never make any more than 100k eGoldCoin. Bitcoin may not be backed by anything, but th
