The Ars article misses the point that google is an ad company that uses it's dominance in search to keep the ad money machine going. Everything else is just playtime to google. So they have no interest in doing the hard work to suppor

I have a 2018 MBP 15" w/Touchbar at work. I have not had any issues but I use the internal keyboard only as a last resort. I really hate the internal keyboard, and I hate the touchbar. For my personal use I went and bought a Surfa

I wonder what level the public school 8th grade teachers are at with their Algebra at this point and what that has to do with this. I get the impression there are very few 8th grade math teachers who studied math in college as their first

No you're not stuck with a 2:1 dogfight. One or both adversaries can escape.. it can happen in seconds with two supersonic aircraft. It's not like a video game where they exist in a modeled world where no one else is around and th

Big difference between the first Jet fighter which was barely operational and a modern fighter. IIRC quite a few Me-262s were shot down by P-51s. But Me-262s had a bunch of weak points and were very immature.. IIRC some of the shoot downs

WWII era Mustangs would have no way to target a modern fighter at all unless the pilot of the modern fighter was acting like a kid playing a video game. All they could do is spray in it's general direction with a hope and a prayer.

Internet bench racing of aircraft always focuses on "dogfighting". Dogfighting has no purpose in in winning the war. Striking the enemy ground targets without engaging in dogfights is successful. Do that and pretty soon ther

This is a really interesting article. Having been interested in aviation for a long time I was not aware of these. Fascinating stuff. A much fancier version of chaff & flares. Reminiscent of submarine warfare.

These guys are test pilots and engineers who have thousands and thousands of hours of flight time and have actually flown the F-35. They can't possibly know what they're talking about, so this must just be a PR piece to cover up h

Exactly... it's not clear if the author of the article is even an engineer, and he's speaking authoritatively on something. good engineer doesn't even speak authoritatively outside their specific area of expertise. And the

There is no such thing as "dogfight at close range" with an aircraft that travels at Mach 3+ when cruising into enemy territory. Even the slightest turn at those speeds moves the airplane by 10s of miles. Any attempt to intercept

You make a bunch of great points. A lot of the "No Accountability" stuff to me started to appear about the same time as Agile. Agile removed most of management's accountability and product management's accountability.

Maybe too many people are trying to find all their meaning in life through their work. It's not a recipe for success for most people, I think the media plays it up a bit too much. They're only covering the success stories in ter

"The Great War"/"World War I" started in 1914... so in 1912 it had not happened, that's where the "quite innocent" came from.

The article is a year old and parrots some of the talking points from the F-16 vs F-35 exercises that definitely didn't reflect the full capabilities of the two aircraft. The F-35 at the time was flying with its flight envelope restric

The article is somewhat alarmist, behavior modification can greatly limit the risk of ticks. This might be something that is more alarming in the UK for some reason if they haven't had to worry about it so far? I live in Massachusetts
