Go take some beginner dance classes. I recommend the hip hop varieties, street jazz, or house dance.

Sorta agree but not wholly surprised. We hit new problems - increased user expectations. We experiment and learn what the right dose of tech to use. When things get complex, the pendulum swings with new innovations. But it is fun to think t

Guess I’ll have to try it now. Just saw they released a .net client too. Neat.

How do you host your edgedb server? I’ve entertained it but didn’t like the idea of having to host 3 servers just to have my app, edgedb, and a database. Strictly speaking toy projects here. Db can be a managed free tier. I guess I can make

Given the author’s interest in developer tools, I wonder whether that makes him more or less patient when it comes to trying to entirely new tools and ecosystem. Do tools suck because the makers don’t care or is the domain itself, in this c

I do agree that better built-in methods should exist that does most of what people have been using useEffect for. Many frameworks come with many tools for specific use cases but react has always left it to the community. If this or new ones

I like their strategy of outsourcing what they’re not best at to the best. They partnered with upstash, and now they’ve got a new feature almost immediately. Sure there’s a lot of vetting, but wrapping products is common. I’d be happy if th

No glimpse of hype from these folks. Wouldn’t it be better to always include a call to action in some form?

First time I saw this hook. This seems more like a library implementor’s hook to sync stores from redux, mobx, etc. You can of course wrap your GET/POST requests to an external network API too but that seems like a lot of unnecessary c

Same. Edgedb is doing something good but I wish I didn’t have to deploy a new service on top of my own db. Postgres only as well.

I admit it. I enjoy it but can’t reasonably suggest it to an employer. F# in the other hand.

Fable is impressive. Only just recently have I heard that fable is looking to super rust. And now you can at least compile a ray tracer? Nice.

Since we have a Unity product, I’m moving us to an F# backend! I actually quite like it since we’re building a typical web api for a game. You don’t have to deal with the typical need to determine what packages to use as you would in ocaml.

What even is a good DSL for applications? I liked that react/jsx was born out of the web, and then influenced swiftui, jetpack compose, and flutter for a new way of writing application markup. I wonder: if not for the web and its pain

Love the random xtdb reference here. Truly a unique product that I hope becomes easily usable when xtdb2 comes out with sql-first support.

It sounds simpler to setup postgres and never have to set up a queue (unless you’re using an in memory queue, and that has its drawbacks). Although I definitely would like to use SQLite just for the cost savings for something. Litefs/l

Are any of your Hasura apis used for public APIs? For internal only APIs, hasura is great. But I wanted to craft a public api with a particular schema, but that leads to difficulties because it’s all database driven. It reveals too much int

I agree with the usefulness of supabase. A product we built moved quickly with supabase. But as product(s) mature, you inevitability have to create api routes that can perform sql transactions, call other apis, and do basically any other sp

I do this too for the past 12 years on DayOne! What started off as a “why am I doing this” first entry has now become an almost daily thought splurge. It’s great for myself that always forget the little, prized memories too.

I didn’t understand where you were going the first sentence but then paragraphs 2 and onwards were fun. Are you usually thinking in terms of type abstractions and enforcing invariants through types?

Haskell has a garbage collector, and the wasm gc proposal has just hit stage 3. Once and if this continues and gets implemented, then we’ll see how Haskell (and fingers crossed, ocaml) gets compiled to wasm. I’d love to deploy Haskell or oc

I like that he made choices based on value per effort. I would’ve done the same thing too. But that’s a fair take. Go’s web server ecosystem has diversified a lot too, and I’m sure his pick would’ve affected the outcome a reasonable amount
