To add data to this, Japan was similar to South Korea in 1996 (both around 2%) but by 2017 South Korea's share of deaths from suicide is 5.08% vs. Japan's 2.1% and USA's 1.71%. From my understanding, culturally Japan and Sout

You may think you are ripping off your employer, but in fact it is the other way around in my opinion. This company has so much money, that their strategy now is to hire all the engineers in the world on retainer (that's you) so the hi

Trust but verify. I'd bet if the author went to the original source, the "no man" himself, they may find that there is actually no such policy! Just a mishearing of a conversation parroted by "wrong people".

I've never come across your scenario. I would say if you need to fix v2 with a breaking change, then v2 must be broken to begin with. All that being said, going to v3 is not a problem either. I have a few APIs where we went up to v7 af

In my case I usually have actually nothing else running and my phone has 4GB of RAM so I am at a loss. I just tried Firefox Preview on Andriod with google news, and it loaded in about 2 seconds. So far so good!

We use API versioning. Works like a charm! If you don't currently have API versioning, just put the breaking changes behind /v2/<endpoint> and start versioning.

The way you are wording it to yourself makes it seem like it's impossible to avoid 100% killing one innocent person, and infinite costs approach 100% never killing one innocent person, but never reaching that perfection. That is not th

I shouldn't have named it "password". The idea was all the form fields are hidden and the process is transparent to the user.

Its not reverse engineer-able. Its basically "proof-of-work" as in all participants know the algorithm, you just make attackers spend CPU time to use your site which would slow them down or cost money.

Here is an idea I thought of for a captcha. Render your webpage and form and include a hidden "password" field. Use a javascript hashing algorithm to hash the password on the client browser (preferably a very slow one that uses a

I am fairly certain that ReCAPTCHA does many things behind the scenes. It probably is using webGL and many other browser features to "fingerprint" your browser, OS, graphics card, sound card, etc. This is simple by just for exampl

I almost agree with you. But I think it was fair fear-mongering on both sides (the scientists vs the politicians). It really drove home that secrets and cover-ups were the real disaster. People were afraid to admit their failure. I like to

Here is an anecdote for you. I bought a 2009 pontiac g5 in 2010 for $10k cash used. The car had 30k km on it, and was still under warranty (100km drivetrain warranty). So why would people spend $50k? And how to justify such a high price, wh
